It just seems to me that football supporters are encouraged to measure a forwards performance in completely different terms to any other player and by such an obviously flawed metric. It's like measuring a 'keepers complete record and contribution by, say, how many penalties he saves, or a winger by how many times he hits the line in possession.
I suppose people do it because it's a stat that's so in your face, but it doesn't make 'goals scored' any more the sensible for that.
