England v Germany

Yeah, I'm fairly confident if Zakora was English he'd have been capped, several times. Maybe not a regular but still. I mean, look at some of the other shitehawks who've been capped. Michael Ricketts springs to mind.

Also, the sheer turnover of players at Spuds... Wasn't Zakora regaled as the new Essien when he signed? Tbf, Spuds can make any player look bad.

First bit wrong, second bit very very right.

So you're up on that post. Well done you.

Zokora's transfer and his position at the club was always very political; mainly concerning the role of Daniel Comolli in relation to the chairman and successive managers.

Zokora was never good enough, not at any stage of his time at Tottenham - maybe a bottom 6 Prem side but no better. Possibly better suited to a slower game in a hotter climate but I wouldn't be sure about that either. Def a dud for the Premiership.

Among those players Tottenham have made look bad in recent years are Lennon, Huddlestone, Garth Bale and Michael Dawson. They all play in a top 4 side.

Jenas, now he played for england - I don't think he's better or worse than zakora.

Well there you go, Jenas, who isn't good enough to have played for England regularly, is no better or worse than a starting midfielder for Sevilla FC, the 4th biggest club in Spain.

Reality is most of the England team would find clubs at about the same level in Italy and Spain as they play at in England if they really wanted to. Just like McManaman, Owen, Woodgate, Gascoigne, Pennant, Beckham, Ince, Platt all did.

Norfolk?

I think you will find, sire, that Wales is home to some of the oldest immigrant populations in the UK, and is really rather diverse.

I lived in Mid-Wales for 25 years, that area of Wales I can assure you is NOT diverse in the slightest!!!

No, fair enough, not all of it!

The industrial areas of the south were the first to see wide-scale industrial migration in the UK, however, and Cardiff is home to some of the oldest immigrant communities in the UK. Likewise, the North East has seen a lot of historical and contemporary industrial migration. The rural areas, not so much, for the obvious reason that people tend to move away from these areas rather than to, but even so I gather there is a significant Eastern European population now working in agriculture in rural Wales.

Basically, Wales isn't the monocultural backwater it is often portrayed as.

you lie

mid wales is full of people from North Wales, South Wales, West Wales and even the odd scouser every now and then.. what more do you want boyo?

All great examples of successful English exports I must say
(a) I didn't say they were.
(b) You're saying McManaman wasn't a successful export? He was more successful in Spain than he was in England.
(c) Woodgate and Owen were largely unsuccessful because of injury problems. The latter, btw, scored a not unrespectable 16 goals in 43 games despite spending a lot of time on the wing or the bench.
(d) Pennant was shite in both La Liga and the Premier League.

Depends how you're measuring it. If you're excluding them, how many of these are world class? How many do or would get a game for a big big european club?

* 01 Neuer
* 03 Friedrich
* 16 Lahm Captain
* 17 Mertesacker
* 20 Boateng (Jansen, 72)
* 06 Khedira
* 07 Schweinsteiger (Kroos, 81)
* 08 Ozil
* 10 Podolski
* 13 Muller Yellow card (Trochowski, 68)
* 19 Cacau

Firstly Bayern are a big European side and several of them play for that club.

Lahm is amazing and Ozil will be in high demand after this tournament.

And Boateng has just signed for City. :cool:

Neuer, Khedira, and Muller (plus Ozil) are all just fresh out of the U21 squad so not really on the radar for big money big club transfers.

Macca was pretty much just a squad player at best for Madrid, albeit he hung around for a while. Was always a strange one, that.

Yeah, Owen's goal-scoring record was decent enough. They didn't much like him though. I share their opinion, although that could be local politics coming into play. I vaguely know his sister, btw. I don't much like her, either.

Woodgate didn't really have a chance to prove anything, although there were plenty of chuckles to be had from his somewhat belated debut.

If I can be excused some scepticism for a moment, I suspect Madrid's brief flirtation with English footballers (Macca aside - he was just an okay player available on a free) may not have been wholly motivated by football.

Pennant signing for Zaragoza was pretty much the equivalent of a former Spanish u21 player signing for Wolves. Not sure that proves anything, much.

But mostly it was just a glib remark on my part.

(b) You're saying McManaman wasn't a successful export? He was more successful in Spain than he was in England.

Just thinking how nonsensical this statement really was. He won two league titles and two champions leagues, one of which he scored in the final.

I see a lot of people think watching one game of spanish football on Sky is making them experts on whether a footballer is any good or not. It's almost as bad/annoying/mis-informed as players not doing well in England menaing they're shite full stop.

Yeah but he was still just an occasional utility player. His versatility in midfield was his biggest asset. He was a more important player to Liverpool.

Integral part of the 2000 CL winning team. Was then gradually reduced to squad player because Madrid started signing Galacticos. Was very popular with the Real Madrid fans.

Having watched Mock The Week last night, I want to tune into the Korsa commentary, which sounds completely fucking mental.

So the handful that play for Bayern then. (;))

As to the fresh out of the U21 squad and not on the radar: see Johnson, Milner (older, but a late developer), Lennon really.

Aye, forgot about the poor man's Rushie.

He nearly took over as Wrexham manager once.

watch your mouth boyo - insult England as much as you like, but not the godlike genius that was St John Aldridge (unless we're talkng about his managerial career that is, but lets just not go there)
