England v Germany

Will be interesting to see if the Germans will be at full strength. They will have Klose back after suspension, but both Schweinsteiger and Ozil were limping after the game against Ghana.

It will be an intriguing game .... England will need to be at their very best to win.

Like in 2000 ;)?

However, Beckenbauer believes Germany are fresher than Fabio Capello's side and that this will work in their favour on Sunday. "The English look a little tired," he said. "There is a good reason for that: the Premier League players have got to play far more games than their Bundesliga colleagues, including two national cup competitions. Therefore, when it comes to a World Cup or a European Championship, they are burnt out.

The Kaiser could have a point here, but if anything is going to rejuvenate the squad it's a match against the Germans.

If those two are out, its game over.
If those two are in then Barry and Lampard are fucked.

Was looking at just how young that German team is. Apart from Freidrich and Klose, they're all pretty much under 25. Even the ones that seem to have been around forever like Lahm, Mertesacker and Podolski are still in their mid-20s. That's got its pros an cons but they seem to gel and work for each other and have Ozil as a playmaker instead of a wandering Gerrard.

Also, as a Citeh fan, not been that impressed by Barry. In comparison Nigel de Jong has looked relentless for The Netherlands.

He reckons England are stupid. With a team containing such visionaries as Carragher, Terry, and the Coles it's hard to disagree. Even the combined cerebral power of Lumpalard's GSCEs and David James wil never be able to counter that level of dip-shittedness.

I saw an interview with Fat Frank recently where the interviewer was lauding him as having the highest IQ at Chelsea. Funnily enough, they didn't actually say what the IQ was though.

I reckon about 85.

Poor lad isn't going to be getting any intellectual stimulus from hanging out with that zero Bleakley.

The Germans could play with one leg tied behind their necks and still beat this shambles; how Capello could say he 'got his team back' having beaten the equivalent of Sussex by one goal and two other half chances I don't know.

Let's be honest, it remains a complete shambles in shape, balance and dynamism, and it'll be exposed ruthlessly by anything resembling a 'team' i.e. any party having reached the knock out stages of a WC as Group leaders.

Steven Gerrard is not any kind of left midfielder and Joe Cole is not a second forward.

You were never like this with the spuds.

Because no-one else was going to answer

What the hell is 'ruth' btw?
The word "ruthless" is middle-english in origin, refering to the biblical story of Ruth; the theme of the story being kindness, love, and redemption. To say someone is ruthless is to literally say that that person is unlike Ruth; cruel, unforgiving, and unloving. (Ruth+less)
From Wikianswers.

Sounds a little like someone's fitting the story to the word, but whatever...

Can we just take Lampard off? He's a fucking waste of space. What has he done in an England shirt?

Don't know if any of you lot have noticed but Germany are quite good at football.

they're really not. Well, depending on how you measure "quite good" really. They're better than England have been the last week or so. They're not as good as England were a year ago.

I though Lampard was actually quite effective last night. Was calm in possession when needed, playing intelligent passes. People only seem to notice he exists if he smacks in a twenty yarder though.

If Ozil is out they'll miss him, but they have plenty of good cover for Schweinsteiger. Tony Kroos has barely been on a pitch so far. He's got the talent to make Schweinsteiger and Ballack look like a pair of donkeys.

As much as I hate to say it, I do think Lampard was more effective than Gerrard last night, and I've always been in Gerrard's camp for that particular debate. Gerrard is very unlikely to be dropped at the moment though, with that band around his arm.

just a little.

Ruthless comes from the 12C reuwen, "to rue." "Ruthful" was a common word until it fell into disuse in the lat 17C.
But does that fit with how we use ruthless today? I suppose if you're ruthless you don't rue things, but it's still a bit of a stretch

He's a magician?! Run Stevie G, run!!!

I thought Gerrard was MOM - at least according to the media cult worshippers.

Ever noticed that the most 'popular' players are the ones who never say no to the media?

It also fits in with "truth" and all those derivatives. over 800 years the precise usage varies a tad. But, if you are rueing, you are showing a degree of pity, and compassion. A lack of such things makes you ruthless
