England v Germany

Is Carragher banned for more than one game? *fingers crossed*

I really can't bear the thought of monkey boy coming back and giving away free kicks every five minutes around the penalty area with his unique ignore-the-ball-block-the-man technique?

Just commenting that everybody seems to think we don't have a prayer against Argentina whereas I think they're beatable if they meet a team who's defence is on top form
I reckon a team thats better than Argentina should be able to beat them - especially if they score more goals.

Argentina remind me a lot of Brazil in 1982 – brilliant going forward, but suspect in defence. England would have a chance against them.

I see the tough draw in a positive way: Germany, Argentina, Spain, Brazil. Glory beckons. :)

Why aren't you being employed as a TV pundit? That was more insightful and interesting than 90% of what the ones they've got have managed.

England will raise their game against the germans, wether that will be enough to beat them is another matter. They have good players - though few 'superstars' - and play well as a team (something england have been lacking). However we can beat them if rooney comes into his own and the team conintue to gel.

If it comes to penalites I think england will go through!

However - with likely ties against Argentina, Spain and then Brazil in the final it would be the greatest achivement in english football ever for England to win the world cup now. Its possible if the team play to their fullest potential - but the last time an england team did that was in 1996.

Germany have done themselves by not allowing ghana an equaliser and getting themselves in the much easier half of the draw.

another 'glourious' defeat at the hands of the germans?

Or a carthatic exorcism as we beat the huns and then go on to give deigo his payback for 1986?

Or a damp squib as the lively germans out pass us, rooney gets sent off and hesekey and lampard miss sitters after sitter?

(all bases covered there I think :))

i hate this, even in jest. i wont be watching the next game in a pub - way too much nationalistic hatred going on - especially if germany win - and extra especially as a lot of england fans cant hold their drink on a early fixture (as evidenced yesterday round my way).

I've never got that one. The world wars, fair enough, although an odd thing to celebrate.

But the world cup? You people do realise they have won three, don't you? And three european championships, too, including that one in 1996 when, apparently, football was due to come home...

Only they have never won the world cup have they?

:D

I actually have a note in iCal for 10 July which says "Buy bratwurst at Lidl for tomorrow's BBQ"

They are lovely. Do you soak them in beer or anything first?

Germany have never won the world cup. FACT!

I assume you mean because of the West Germany thing.

Except they have really, haven't they? Which is why Fifa allowed reunified Germany to claim the titles won by West Germany.

Fact Nacht.

Anyway, me thinks you are a confused Welshman. First you do down Maradona, then you try and take three world cups away from Germany... dear Gods man, get with the programme.

There's another type?

2 teams who've both underperformed (England moreso than Germany) in the group stage and need to up their game if either of them want to get anywhere proper in the final stages. Old rivals, lots of history, will make for a painful afternoon's viewing. I reckon the teams are pretty evenly matched.

Depending on how the F1 qualy goes this may well be branded as a 'Weekend of English triumph' or somesuch nonsense.
