Sorry but Lennon's been poor this tournament and Milner should be nailed on to start after his performance today.
 
Argentina have got a ropey defence though. If Rooney ever gets going he could bang one in against them. They're good going forward but we've got a good defence. I reckon we could do Argentina (on a good day)

Substitute "England" for "Argentina" and "Messi" for "Rooney", and see which sounds more accurate.

here we go again...why just not skip out Argentina as well and speculate how you'll beat Brazil (and that the Dutch are good but you'll take them in the final):rolleyes:

Good point. Neither are the attacking force they once were and I think we will be able to teach them just exactly what samba/total (del. as appropriate) is all about.

I'm off to pick out my spot on the parade route...

I don't understand the German defence. Their best left back is playing at right back. Their second best right back is playing at centre back. Then they just played a centre back who doubles as a right back at left back. It's like nobody but Merteszacker is allowed to play their best position.
 
Just commenting that everybody seems to think we don't have a prayer against Argentina whereas I think they're beatable if they meet a team who's defence is on top form

Fair enough, but that and England beating them are two separate issues.

Point being, our defence is not on top form.

John Terry just said we showed movement. Well, strictly speaking that's true...

Gerrard then followed up with "we don't care who we play in the last 16, if we play like we did today, plus a little bit more..." and then I stopped paying attention because I couldn't get past the stupidity of that statement.

I do love my country, and my team, honest, but fuck me they make it difficult sometimes.

We've conceded one goal so far, and that to a freak (or maybe not so at this world cup) goalkeeping error.

Ok, not the greatest teams but we have also only scored 2.
 
And have you noticed that rooney is getting better with every game. First game he didn't touch the ball. Second game he had a few shots and was getting more involved. Today he was starting to look good. Next game....

Good analysis. i think Lahm would cause more trouble to England on the left (though Milner is less of a liability than Lennon or Phillips) and maybe he was playing right back as they weren't too sure about how Muller would cope. i thought Muller was pretty good though in the first two games.

it's what the media wants though. English spirit and all that. The only thing terry and Upson did wrong was not to get their skull cracked open and play in a bloody headband.

Today was certainly more encouraging, but there were a couple of times when I think he tried to do too much and do it all himself, rather than give it to a teammate.

I gotta say, much as I'm not a fan that Terry dive was funny :D

Terrifying for what it suggests, but funny in and of itself.
