England v Algeria

How's your dog? Is it a Welsh Springer now?;)
Spaniels originate from Spain. (Espaniel)

I'm just stunned by how shit England were. And I feel like an utter prat for believing the hype surrounding England's new beginning under Capello.

Capello is a great manager, and it's a shame that he has shit to work with.

Capello fucked up on a few decisions tonight tbh. Not gonna make excuses for him here.

one of my better memories

You can get stuffed as well.

Algeria were well organised and put in by far the better team performance but I saw nothing from them to indicate that they deserved a win.

They set out to get a draw and got one. And did it well. But at no stage did they really threaten to score a goal.

Nor did England - did they set out for a draw as well?

Algeria might well have, before the game kicked off, had a containing plan, but that went out of the window after the first 10 minutes. The fact they didn't have a top-notch goal scorer doesn't mean they weren't attack minded - they bloody well were, far more so than England with our pointless hoofs.

Someone said to me in the week that Rooney is among the top 5 footballers in the world.

eh..

He seemed distinctly average tonight.

Uh? If he were a club manager, he'd get the boot very quickly for managing to produce a system and spirit that enabled every single outfield player to look substandard. Barry made some crucial interventions at the back, but his distribution was awful. And everybody else was awful. SWP looked the only man likely to do anything when he came on. Everybody else had more or less given up.

Algeria looked like the team with pedigree tonight. England looked like the minnows.

Worst game of the tournament. They could have played another 90 minutes and I don't think either side would have scored.

As we speak, Arnold Schwarzenegger is flying over to SA in his Gulfstream to hold Beckham's mourning pee pee.

They're both outstanding athletes you know...

a thought, im a rugby guy by default, but in the last rwc england performed abysmally in the group stages and were right up against it, and somehow, by sheer bloodymindedness, forced their way through to the final.

now this isnt a rugby vs footie post, but do we believe that the football team has that strength of character (and will to win under utmost pressure) to do anything similiar?

i hope so. remain to be convinced, but thats a head and heart thing aint it :p

All anybody should be thinking about now is winning the next game to qualify for the second round. Then take it from there.

I hate all this talk about England winning the World Cup before it's even started. It's a bad mentality.

You have to build it up to tear it down- i dont like our media!!! lol

I suggest you actually look at his record as a club manager, it is anything but shite.
You misunderstood. If he were a club manager and his team was playing that poorly, he'd get the boot very quickly. Benitez got a lot of flak for producing teams that were much better than England have been since clinching qualification. When clubs bring in managers, they don't keep them on after a run of terrible performances just because they did well in their last job. They get the boot.

If Capello isn't chiefly to blame for the poor performance, why the fuck is he being paid 7 million quid a year to be in such an uninfluential role. I think he's got it wrong so far. He's handling the players badly, he isn't picking the right players, imo. And the system he has chosen has not worked. There's time to get it right yet, but if England do go out against Slovenia, it will be chiefly Capello's responsibility.

shit, im not saying they can will themselves to the final everytime, but some of that grit and fire-breathing granite-boulder-balls attitude, just something to restore some pride tbh is the first step. and the players own self respect.

they probably dont realise how bad they were yet, in the next couple of days there will be mass cringing as they watch the video.
