England v Algeria

Did'nt the Slovenians knock out Russia in their play-off last year? :hmm:

Yep, thanks to a really late goal in the first (away) game, which they lost 2-1 (and won the home leg 1-0). Everton's unspellable star Bily scored both Russian goals.

The BBC are saying that a fan managed to get into the England dressing room, possibly disguised as a lazy waste of space.

I didn't think England were THAT bad - though not good either - but I thought Algeria were a really good side and had been underestimated.

Copello: tactically crap.
Rooney: Not in Messi's league.
Lampard: Rubbish international player.
Heskey: Donkey

And Rooney didn't play that badly tonight either. Yes he cocked up a couple of chances but he had a few good punts on goal too.

He's not as skillful as Messi with the really nice touch but he's just as effective at the business end

Taking the piss? He was awful. No touch, no shooting boots. A couple of 1-2's with Gerrard and that's it. He's not fit in my opinion, he looks way off the pace.

Rooney was awful! His touch isn't as amazing as Messi's but then nobody's is, but normally his touch is really good. Tonight it was really poor.

he whacked in a couple of decent shots as i recall and would (I think) have scored that header but the Algerian just brushed it with his head first. But he was in position to score it - bang on

I think you have to blame capello.

His system worled for the qualifiers but it seems that the team spending time together and playing more matches has - bizzarely - led to them getting more and more disjointed and demoralised.

This bollocks about only telling the players whose playing two hours before - surely you need a settled tema that knows what its doing - espcially at the back.

And the faliure to get anything except mediocrity out of rooney is mystifying - why doesn't he play him up front like he does for man u? play cole, or gerrard behind. Surely as our only world class forward we should build the team around him.

The reliance on heskey means that in both wc games england just hoof it up to emile which occaisinly leads to a knock on (gerrards goal) or a corner but usually leads to england losing possesion and it coming striaght back at us. When heskey does get clear he routinely hits it striaght at the keeper or tries to play in rooney or gerrard - and fails.

its painful to watch. Its like pub football.

Why cant they pass the fucking ball around, control possesion. work openings - JUST PLAY PROPER FUCKING FOOTBALL YOU CUNTS!!!

I dont know wether its the shit system, poor morale, rooneys on his period, divisons in the camp or a manager who has taken leave of his senses but something is very badly wrong with this england team.

It must be the vuvuzelas ....

We could have appointed Sam Allardyce and saved a lot of money and expectation and end up with the same results. :D

Algeria did really well, we never got any space in midfield and that's that really. We don't have a player in midfield who can find that bit of space, we have lots of dynamic players but lack the one with a bit of brain to find the space. I think probably Cole is the one player who could do that.

They didn't deserve booing off, they tried hard, but nothing really went right, all the little touches and control seemed a bit heavy or misread.

england = Allardyce's bolton on a bad day without Okacha.

I wonder how much we miss Rio Ferdinand, in the sense he is a defender who can pass from the back and is comfortable in possession - we never seemed to slow the game down, just surged forward or belted it away.

It wasn't a terrible performance by the standards I judge my own team by - basically, they tried, but it wasn't a very intelligent performance.

Ah well.

Should have taken Brett Ormerod.

quite an interesting game i thought - to see how top players can completely crubmle in particular circumstances. gerrard was making mistakes all over the place, lampard was like a churchmouse, playing sideways passes and looking terrified. rooney was the worst player on the pitch. couldn't control simple balls, he gave it away more often than not.

the scariest thing is the morale which was bad from the start -really nervous, dejected body language and terrified of making mistakes. it shouldn't be like that and this can only be down to the manager. the atmosphere in the camp stinks and this shows in their football.

club managing is very different to international and i think the selection thing is one clear example. it appears to have everyone on edge.

rooney's comment to the camera at the end also shows how cut off they are from reality. people telling you how fabulous you are all the time must turn you into a right plonker. if more of our players played abroad i think it would do the team a lot of good.

i hope england come alive miraculously but i don't see it. i think we may scrape through the groups but i have no great hopes for the tournament. just to see a bit of grit and 'having a go' would be good if we are going to go out. we're getting a reputation around the world for being dull and negative.

are bbc going to do an england game? the ITV coverage is shit
