England v Algeria

I'm loving the over-reactions on facebook. some choice ones:

xxxxx thinks people should give up on England being World Champions and instead follow a sport where England won the last 2 World Championships and are 1st and 2nd in the current Championship! Come on Jenson and Lewis!

(surely it wasn't THAT bad)

xxxxxxxx Get a fucking English manager in FFS. Lets get some pride, passion and balls back, and the only way to do that is get an English manager in

yes, that really worked well with steve mcclaren

xxxxxxxx Bring back Sven. At least he could pick a decent team.

how quickly we turn.....

xxxxxxxxx Has anyone sacked a manager during a World Cup? Capello is a twat!!

tbh it may be a good idea if you go out now.

imagine what a decent side is going to do to you and the humiliation of being on the wrong end of a pwning

All credit to Algeria. They obviously had a plan and stuck with it and it worked a treat. They never gave England a chance to really put together anything.

What worried me the most was how we performed from set pieces though. We have enough corners and the like but did nothing from them. They seemed to lack 'balls'. It was a tepid performance.

Personally I think thats a team looking like it needs a night on the lash followed by a day of doing nothing very much. SWP looked like only the player in an England shirt who wanted to move forward with the ball at his feet. OK, so he tended to get bought down but he was winning free kicks.

There is something very wrong with whats happening at the moment.

We would honestly play better against a decent team, however getting to the quarters would be a minor miracle still.

I suppose you could argue that both the US and Algeria would have settled for a draw prior to each game and certainly set out their stall to achieve that.

But for me its the lack of effort from the set pieces I find inexcusable. They must have known that they would get more than their fair share of them and as such should have made much much more of the chances when they came.

I suppose you could argue it was so bad Capello might make the changes necessary, even the biggest one of all: Gerrard or Lampard . .

I hardly think that you could argue that Algeria played for the draw!

ok I am the first to admit that I am not a football fan and dont really know much about it all.. but I do watch and have played a lot of rugby.

the side tonight just didnt seem to want it badly, they looked as though they thouhgt they could just turn it on a bit and bang a goal would ensue and they could go back to being lacklustre. maybe its becasue they didnt rate the oposition and *would* up their ganme had it been say Germany etc. as one of the pundits said individually they are amongst the best players there are and regularly play outstanding football for their clubs against players of a higher clabre than they were playing against tonight. but put them together and they dont seem to be gelling.

Oh come off it. Yes, they made some nice breaks but it was obvious that they were primarily concerned with trying to close England down every time we got into their half and they did a bloody good job at it.

I have nothing but admiration for the way the Algerians stuck to their task but they were there with the hope of a draw and perhaps the chance of getting a goal on the break. They never really threatened at all beyond that one dodgy back pass.

You're mental.

Shit
England were shit.

If it wasn't soaked by the rain this evening, I would have set fire to my England flag.

Utter shite performance.

They didn't sit back though. They had 51% of possession.

if they had a decent forward they'd be tidy.

You're mental.

You can get stuffed as well.

Algeria were well organised and put in by far the better team performance but I saw nothing from them to indicate that they deserved a win.

They set out to get a draw and got one. And did it well. But at no stage did they really threaten to score a goal.
