The other thing I noticed is that he was allowed to have it taken in a suit. If you look at most mugshots, they are either dressed in orange jumpsuits, or they have something like a barber's cape around them to take away any individuality. None of these people had to submit to that. Not one.

Pretty sure I've seen plenty of mugshots where they're in civvies.

Does it depend on what part of the process the photo is taken, and/or how they arrest is done, as likesfish suggests.

I'm sure it mostly depends on the jurisdiction (at least in the US). All of the mugshots in my county are taken with a grey barber's cape.

TBH I thought the pic on here couldn't be right, so checked online, and was surprised. No, I can't see how it's flattering. He doesn't look brave or defiant; he looks angry and cornered.
