Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

Wasn't there a post on here where some Republicans are now criticizing Jesus for being too woke? Particularly the Sermon on the Mount.
Someone did, I cannot find it, so apologies to who originally posted, but there are a couple of stories and the quote.

It was the result of having multiple pastors tell me, essentially, the same story about quoting the Sermon on the Mount, parenthetically, in their preaching — "turn the other cheek" — [and] to have someone come up after to say, "Where did you get those liberal talking points?" And what was alarming to me is that in most of these scenarios, when the pastor would say, "I'm literally quoting Jesus Christ," the response would not be, "I apologize." The response would be, "Yes, but that doesn't work anymore. That's weak." And when we get to the point where the teachings of Jesus himself are seen as subversive to us, then we're in a crisis.

The links are in code quotes as it was causing issues with the board and making this post sticky for some users.

My US friend is convinced that Trump will be the Republican candidate and that he'll chose that loon Vivek Ramaswamy as his running mate. I have to agree that Trump definitely looks the most likely.
I listened to an NYT podcast earlier, analysing the primary debate last week, and they were pretty clear that Ramaswamy was the most Trumpian, and possibly even more extreme. They also pointed to his appropriation of Obama's "tall skinny guy with the weird name" trope.

yes. this isn't it, but it's been widely reported.

Made $7M so far from mug shot mugs.

There are three different senses of mug there!

Watched some ‘highlights’ from of the Republican candidates debate, genuinely terrifying stuff. Trump didn’t even bother to turn up yet he still somehow managed to completely dominate. The crowd were dominated by his thuggish supporters who would boo and hiss at any candidate who made even remotely critical remarks about Trump. The candidates on stage were mostly terrified of criticising him! This:

Very much reminded me of the ‘unanimous’ vote in the Death of Stalin:

I just can't see Trump returning as president, as Chris Sununu says in the interview above, he doesn't have enough support amongst independents, and there's sizeable minority in the republican party that seems to be in the 'anyone but Trump' mode. I think as more republicans wake-up to him not being electable there's a chance he'll not get even the nomination, or if he does, as Sununu says they will be crushed in the election.

Interesting piece in the Washington Post discussing this, well worth reading in full.

Some of the increases were marginal— former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson’s improvement to 9.4% from 8.5% on that question hardly makes him a threat to anyone. But immediately after the debate, 50% of those polled said they would consider supporting Haley, compared to 30% who said they would before the event. And those who said they would support DeSantis increased from 63% to just over two-thirds, a smaller but perhaps even more consequential increase. Meanwhile, all three candidates the pollsters asked about who weren’t on stage saw their support drop, including Trump, who lost about five percentage points and fell below DeSantis on that measure.
That’s not all. As political scientist Meredith Conroy pointed out Thursday, “Candidates willing to go after Trump last night (Haley, Christie, Pence) didn’t get punished.” Indeed, not only did all three expand the group willing to consider voting for them, but their net favorable ratings all went up. Christie and Pence still remain underwater by that measure, and Haley’s criticism was limited to Trump’s electability, still if the candidates conclude that they can gain support from attacking the former president, it may increase their willingness to do so.

Trump Doesn’t Look So Invincible in Post-Debate Polls

My cousin posted this on FB.

'No new variant'

- translation: reality scares the shit out of me so I'll just curl up inside this nice warm delusion that I can make it go away by just saying 'no' to it and stamping my feet really hard.

Trouble is, it's not a warm and cosy delusion at all. It's shot through with paranoia and rage. Like crawling into a pit full of snakes to hide from a squirrel.

Doesn't do it here - Firefox if that makes any difference.

Presumably will solve itself when we get to next page.

dunno bout this thread, but someone called 'two sheds' posted in another thread a couple of weeks ago..?

Hardly surprising, Trumpianity supplants woke Jesus. The bible was right to beware of False Prophets.
