I just can't see Trump returning as president, as Chris Sununu says in the interview above, he doesn't have enough support amongst independents, and there's sizeable minority in the republican party that seems to be in the 'anyone but Trump' mode. I think as more republicans wake-up to him not being electable there's a chance he'll not get even the nomination, or if he does, as Sununu says they will be crushed in the election.

I hope this is right, but every time I check the opinion polls, Trump remains pretty much neck and neck in approval ratings with Biden. Yep, me too. Where it's at, Biden v Trump (and also v other Reps) on a state by state basis can be seen in this wiki page. I haven't got the patience to map those onto the electoral college, but Trump has leads in some states that Biden won last time (Georgia for example, as in one of trump's criminal cases, also Nevada).

If I were the judge, I'd probably lock him up for contempt for a couple of days, with the provision that any acts of violence by his followers would extend that stay.

He'll want to push the martyr angle as much as possible but I really doubt spending any actual time in jail is his intention. He's all about his own convenience isn't he and a jail cell in Georgia is definitely not convenient.

Trump has been railing against the speed of the trial and how it kicks off right in campaign season, and has requested a delay until after the election.

Revoke bail, send him on remand with no special treatment whatsoever, grant his request.

I don't understand why anyone would ever stick their necks out for a total fucking piece of shit like Trump. He will never return the favour or even show the slightest bit of gratitude. These lawyers have most likely destroyed their careers, and all for what? To be a minor legal speedbump for some spray-tanned turd? Did they even get paid? Knowing what Trump is like, he probably even stiffed them for their hours. So fucking why?
