Maybe he thinks he can then fall back on the state for support with housing, medical care etc. Oh I forgot the US doesn't believe in this as it's too communist/ woke (insert whatever new bogeyman is flavour of the month).

There is a lot of content aimed at Catholics online which is deliberately designed to drive that - article after article with clickbait headlines which nearly always ended up a report of him having said something that is long established and widely agreed doctrine.
As with so much of Christian agitation the fight against abortion is a big part of it, where life is sacred but any attempt to actually do things that would make the mother less likely to have an abortion (by increasing support for families, lowering the cost of living, supporting working mothers and so on) is utterly unacceptable, socialism, a betrayal etc etc etc

I read a report on one of his earlier court appearances saying he looked like he was shitting it and looked 'diminished'. It was saying that contrasted with his bluster and aggression about the cases when he's outside the courtroom and would probably lower his stock if it could be viewed publicly (I won't find the article - Guardian - but that was the gist of it). At the very least self preservation will take over and he'll have to reign in the accusations and bluster and won't look quite as brave in the court room. If of course he takes the stand.Can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing. No doubt trump will exploit it to the max.
Also, I still can't see him seeing the inside of a prison cell. If nothing else, the practicalities of someone with lifelong secret service protection going inside would be mind boggling.
