Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

She didn’t get through to people. They didn’t believe her. Especially when she was also defending their record.
Because it’s impossible for around half of voters to even hear what she was saying, because their filtered and curated information sources would never make them aware of it. This stuff is controlled by very wealthy and powerful people. We have no chance of getting a message through, and it’s never going to get easier.

String pulling conspiracy time is here again!

Maybe, she wasn't an inspiring or convincing candidate. She certainly had her share of plutocrat backers.

The USA has always been a fascist country. I dont think anyone did anything wrong on the Dems. The US public were determined to have another round of fascism.

Yeah, 2026 I can understand but the very idea that dems are cueing up an impeachment ready to go on day one stinks of disinformation bullshit. Not even the dems are that myopic and thick-headed...
Not impossible, but it would be an extremely stupid response if they did go down that route.

Well, except that the Democrats are also a branch of the capitalist class with wealth and power behind them. The lesser of two evils in this case, for sure. But still.
We have no chance of getting a message through, and it’s never going to get easier.
The Democrats are not “we”, mind. See above.

They are all being quashed. Tell Raskolnikov that electoral representatives in the USA are ABOVE the law.
He's already been found guilty of 34 felonies.
He is a felon until his SCOTUS clears him of all charges.

As well as political responses to Trump, quite simply organising, I'm sure there just needs to be some common sympathy and empathy. Just being there for people at the moment. As you say, a lot of people will be feeling they are under a real threat.

I haven't seen the Independent article, I was just going on what I had been told by LGBTQ+ people I am in contact with in the US.

i am trying to balance the fearful posts with those reaching out and offering help / support - there are people out there offering practical and financial help for people to move states, get on with medical and legal processes and so on.

Nobody forced her to portray herself, at the start of the campaign, as being inseperable from Biden on all of the issues and nobody forced her, at the end of campaign, to spend much of her time parading around with the likes of the Cheney family because she saw the RINO lot as electoral allies.

Everybody seemed to hear this, and stayed at home accordingly.

They can't vote either, but there Trump was sauntering in to vote for himself.

Unfortunately they can.
Trump has been convicted of felonies in New York and under New York state law, so New York law will determine his eligibility to vote in Florida. Under New York law, a person convicted of a felony is disenfranchised only while incarcerated for that felony. Thus, Trump will be able to vote as long as he is not incarcerated for his New York felonies at the time of the election.

I read that there was some rule about what VPs are and aren't allowed to say?

Not sure trashing her own admins record would have worked either honestly...it didn't with the Tories

The thing I've not seen anyone mention is that if you ignore the politics we all know someone a bit like Trump. Might not be someone you'd like or get on with but we've all known someone who writes 3am FB/Twitter rants about 'a certain someone' etc. We've all met someone who talks absolute Trump-like bullshit in a pub or bar etc. A friend of mine in the US was saying he actually provides someone for Trump supporters themselves to look down on rather than be looked down on...

I'm more persuaded by the cod-psychological explanation that the "establishment' ridicule and looking down on Trump engenders solidarity amongst the "reprobates" or "garbage" who feel similarly ridiculed and looked down on by the political elite.

If someone is convicted of a felony in one particular state (which I think is the case with Trump) does that prevent them from voting or owning a firearm in a different state?

Depends on the state.
They each have their own laws.

I know I'll catch grief for saying this, but I've found that the "shit rolls downhill" theory of human social organization is largely true. It's true in a lot of primate societies and we're just jumped up, narcissistic primates.

Access to and subssequent choice of information sources does make it harder to be heard if you're trying to say something different.

Not impossible, though.

There seems to be a common (understandable) trend of waiting for 'them' to come to 'us'. We can go to them too. Again, not easy, just not impossible.

It also allows us to not only be heard, but also to listen.

(Again, to be clear, I'm not saying we should listen so as to absolve. But it really does help in terms of making informed decisions)

You don't think that was an accident? It was carefully cultivated literally for generations to the point where it's an unquestionable cultural norm.
Pinkerton's, Mollies, strike breaking, union busting, Wobblies, various red scares ...

That's over a hundred years of conflict and cultivation, as you put it. Wonder if it can ever be reversed?

An interesting, plausible and very depressing analysis:

p.s. I posted this to the wrong channel initially, hence the repost here

A good albeit chilling read. Lot of other good (equally depressing and chilling) reads on there, thanks for link.

Reports of phone calls and sucking up to Putin and Netanyahu are actually quite terrifying. Of course it's all about creating peace!
