What about a day bed with a trundle bed underneath for when you need it for two? Means there wouldn't be and underneath storage space though.

I hadn't posted this when I thought and I see trundle bed has been mentioned.

Yes, I learned about trundles in the process of my year-long googling. Problem is, I think, I want the moon on a stick!

This is really helping me to clarify my thoughts though, so thank you for all the input.

I could just about fit a trundle, though my bedside table is my heavy small filing cabinet, so I'd have to move that permanently for easy trundle access, leading to space issues elsewhere...
Also anything with an armrest/footboard would make it difficult for me to access my wardrobe, and the reviews (I have trawled through hundreds!) are making me wary of daily comfortable use (i.e. they say stuff like "this is brilliant for when my young grandchildren come to stay over twice a year"), which is of course often also the issue with sofabeds.

I think ultimately, I just really like my room as it is (even the sofa bed I tried to talk myself into would look too chunky, I think) and taking the whole space/sleeping comfort /price/delivery/impermanence thing into the equation, I might just get that basic single bedframe in earlier link. Gain a little bit of storage space, keep my room configuration and my floor space.

Wonder if a decent quality double airbed that I could plonk down in the middle of the room might do the job for when partner stays over? (Generally we are just staying at each other's at weekends atm). Certainly, it'd be bound to be more comfortable than my current set-up...

I've launched into the world of 100% cotton bedding, at the grand old age of 54. Bought the first set to cheer me up through winter depression, and didn't realise it was 100%. Bought it for the pattern tbh but immediately felt the difference. Have now bought another set, plus brushed cotton sheets. Holy fuckaroni - ultimate in 'cosy'.

There’s no going back! Currently I have a brushed cotton duvet cover but an Egyptian cotton bottom sheet, as I can’t turn over in bed so easily if the sheet isn’t smooth cotton.
I do sometimes iron my pillowcases, unless the creases have blown out on the washing line, but I don’t iron the rest.

I was wondering about ironing. I fucking loathe ironing, just don't do it unless it's absolutely necessary, and was hoping not to have to do it with these. Thanks for the reassurance :D

It might depend how it’s dried. I don’t have a tumble dryer and only wash bedding and towels when it’s a dry enough day to peg them out on the washing line for a couple of hours!

In the winter, I hang them over a clothes horse, never ever tumble dry them cos they're just too big and end up all crumply, with damp bits.

Anyway, I will be buying more. It's my new obsession :D

If you buy a chair and assemble it but decide it’s wrong for you but can’t dismantle it again, what’s the deal? Will argos take back a chair we can’t get the wheels off? :hmm:

Bought this for my stepson as an exchange for a fab t-shirt that didn’t fit for Xmas. The frame was a freebie from a neighbour. Delivering to him today.

Got one from Sofas and Stuff. It’s wonderful. Dunno if they’re within your budget though.

Yeah, everyone knocks ikea but I got an ex display three seater from there and it lasted 18 years. Only got rid as we wanted a new one for our newly finished room. It had seen better days but with a few cushions was still comfortable.
Yep, ours is coming up to its 15th birthday - it's a bit battered and saggy, but I haven't found anything I like as much.

I have IKEA furniture here that dates back to rhee late 80s, and has survived at least four house moves.

IKEA has budget stuff that's no better than you'd get from Argos or MFI, but if you go for the more expensive quality stuff, I'd say it's pretty good for mass produced furniture.

I've got an Ikea 2 seater sofa which is 2nd hand, I got it 15 years ago and although it is a bit shredded (in that way that can happen in households with cats :hmm: ) it is really comfy and hasn't sagged or broken in all that time despite daily use - I just wish I had the 3 seater version too! (And some new covers for this one).

Also all our bookcases are Ikea - I bought unfinished pine ones around 30 years ago and finished them myself with beeswax, so they've darkened beautifully over the decades to a lovely dark golden shade.

Old IKEA is better than new. I bought this unit to keep my records on, in 2006. I bought the same (different name but same unit) in 2018 to house my lad's toys and books.

Recently moved house so had cause to shift them both. The recent one I could carry and lift, myself, up into the back of a Luton. The old one, needed a mate to help to carry it. They've changed from chipboard stuff to expanded cardboard. The old one, admittedly, I've had to batten but it's carrying some phenomenal weight.

The CD racks are fugly, I hate them so much but I can't find anything else that'll take 1000+ CDs. Rented house so can't build proper shelves 🙄
