Daine Abbot supports John McDonell's nomination for leader

Tony Benn has apparently said (twice) that if John McDonnell does not get on the ballot paper then the Labour Party is finished.

Meanwhile very many LP MPs considered to be on the left of the LP have announced they will not stand at the next election. I take it rumours that John McDonnell is considering standing on an independent ticket (presumably if central office enforce his deselection?) are just that...

Ah.'The nowhere else to go' issue.

Obviously I am refering to the question often put to J McD and the labour left as to what they are going to do if the campaign flops badly.
If Labour stalwart, John McDonnell were to giveup/ be kicked out/getpissed off with, the LP, in the event of not winning the leadership, where would he go?

I dont believe he would do a Galloway and join the 'highly successful ' Respect. Indeed he wouldnt bother with the cnwp either , however much they promise to boldly support him and canvass support. He is not a green because he is a socialist.

He hasnt any choice but to stay and continue and build the base that he has got.
i see your point now .in that the left as no strong grouping .it will be interesting to see how the so called broad church of labour holds together after an election defeat.labour was slowly waining after 45 so nu labour changed course to win elections but now it seems that this formulae is failing so it will be interesting to see which way it jumps

But what if, when his campaign fails to get him elected as Leader, his constituency party don't select him as their candidate in the next General Election? What do you think he will do then?

I cant really speculate on this. I would guess that he would continue building the left in the LP. After all he has built himself a reasonable base amongst the Unions and in the constituencies. The support he is getting speaking around the country I think counts for something as well.

As already expressed I think his constituency gives him overwhelming support and continues to do so.I dont think they will kick him out if he doesnt get the leadership.
There is no indication at the moment that the LP heirarchy want to close his CLP down or oust him out. In the unlikely event that it did I believe the LP would open itself to a media disaster. The last thing new labour wants is to be seen as split due to in fighting. Mind you some could argue that no one would notice or care.

We are where we are with J McD so it is important to make up your mind whether you support him or oppose him. As he is clearly the biggest focus of attention for the left for a good few years my view is that he should be supported, even if you feel his programme is reformist (which BTW I do)

I shall not be wasting my time supporting him :)

I don't agree with his views, his policies or his stance.

But, I am not a member of the Labour party, so I don't suppose he cares much :)

Fuck that! Am I the only one who thinks Diane Abbot and Michael Portillo would make a great couple? I love watching them on This Week!

FWIW, one of the few Labour MP's I respect. The 'coconut' jibe is pathetically typical of an ill-thought out, ultra-leftist, simpleton.

MC5 you respect Diane Abbott. I never thought your politics were that good. But have to say i'm a bit shocked that you think somebody like her is worthy of respect.
The woman is a complete twat.
And as for coconut jibe. Just stating my opinion. She is a shitty hypocrite and has just been a nice tame black woman who is all too happy to be manipulated by people who really dont give a SHIT about Black people.

Do you respect Lee Jasper as well?

Says the man who thinks Bob Marshall Andrews is good....

He speaks more sense than you, numbnuts. :p He's also a good backbencher, whereas you're just an embittered wee shite who reckons he's a 'socialist'.

Furthermore, he took a principled stand against the war...and you?

What shit attitudes some people on here have.

Cunts who call people "coconuts" for example.

Shit politics i said. I really can't believe that people think the likes of Bob Marshall Andrews and Diane Abbott are good MPs?

And as for calling somebody a coconut....So what.....The insult was more about her being a shitty hypocrite....

Some of my best friends are coconuts..

I do as a matter of fact.

I'm no fan of either's politics though, or yours for that matter, which appear to have become strikingly similar to the Khmer Rouge. :)

How many times have their constituents re-elected them?

Abbott 5 times

Bob Marshall-Andrews 6.

Seems to me like the most important people (the constituents, in case you don't get it) think they're fine MPs.
And as for calling somebody a coconut....So what.....The insult was more about her being a shitty hypocrite....
So you're a cunt who uses racist insults. Nice.
Some of my best friends are coconuts..
Hoist by his own petard.

That's bollocks. The Khmer Rouge arrived at their particularly nasty sets of ideals as the result of harsh analysis, whereas balders seems to have arrived at his as the result of harsh anal warts.

Great reasoning......Up to your usual high standards....Margaret Thatcher....Finchley......the UK........

Tony Blair must be good cos the voters of Sedgefield keep voting for him.

Its not a spoof...

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DemocraticKampuchea/

I have wondered how many people here are in the United States and
would support and help with a Party that is devoted to following the
examples of Pol Pot, amongst other leaders of the past. Placing a key
emphasis on the lessons that Democratic Kampuchea brought to the
world. If so, I would certainly be interested in forming a committee
to develop this more thoroughly, please, contact me if you are
interested.

Good luck with all of that :D

Ask their constituents, they re-elected them.

The rest of this post is more of yer trolling, racist shite.

Interesting use of the c word there.

The insult for me is to call somebody a shitty hypocrite.
You may think coconut is a worse insult and maybe for people of a certain delicate political persuasion it is.....

Usually find they are white on the outside and white on the inside..

I stand corrected. :D

In both Abbott and Marshall-Andrews' case it's borne out by their own constituents (not just local party members) praise of them.
If you can't come up with something a little more solid then don't bother, balders. Really, don't.
Tony Blair must be good cos the voters of Sedgefield keep voting for him.
He must be better than the opposition, and that's all that matters to his constituents, idiot.

Cunt?
You're right, it's too good a word to use on you, it actually denotes something that gives pleasure, whereas you just give shit.
Arsehole it is, then.
The insult for me is to call somebody a shitty hypocrite.
Nah, for you the insult is whatever you can do to smear someone or dodge their questions. Even the worst politicians aren't as craven as you.
You may think coconut is a worse insult and maybe for people of a certain delicate political persuasion it is.....
I think it's a bad insult because I've spent 45 years around black people, and they tell me it's a bad insult to use even on someone who might deserve it.
You making fatuous little snidish asides attempting to imply that anyone who objects to the word is a "wiberal" doesn't change that, neither does it change the fact that you're an arsehole.
Usually find they are white on the outside and white on the inside..
There was me thinking we're all meat on the inside, but I'm sure you know better eh, commissar Baldwin?
