Cycling Thread #2 - Track

What? Is the interactive thingy not on Freeview? That's shit.

Try the beeb's olympic cycling part of their website, they show live coverage. That's what i watched last week in work.

At the moment on Freeview we have BBC One coverage (aka rowing), more rowing, saling plus the Moto GP and then Match of the Day re-run.

The BBC website just seems to have BBC One coverage.

It is shit:(

I've missed Victoria - how did she do?

She broke the OR in qualifying but it's still the mens sprints on atm.

That crap tbh, the one sport we are wiping the floor with everyone else in not being given proper coverage. Not dissing rowing like but that's typical of uk broadcasters when it comes to cycling imo

Ah, this is the cat & mouse slow bicycle race I was on about the other day

Well I suppose the BBC schedulers see it as a case of finals vs qualifying rounds but Match of the Day is on BBC2 as well so why put it on Freeview as well?

Highlights are on BBC 1 now though. Jason Kenny about to kick ass.

Right then, I so want Wendy Houvenagel to win this.

Romero is just an elite athlete who transferred from rowing to the discipline within cycling that is just so much about strength rather than bike skills. Right from day one in cycling she had all the resources behind with the sole aim of winning gold. She hasn't come through the route of local TTs. She also doesn;t come from County Derry.

Go Wendy (and you know whatever happens she'll have a big smile at the end of the race).

That's my rant over. Kettle boiled let the action begin.

Ah, my snails pace internet connection  why is it so slow on a sunday

Romero gold, Wendy H silver. I feel disappointed somehow. I blame twisted for this ;) But, YESSSS, another gold and silver to add to our ever increasing total!

fair play, its no mean feat for someone to win medals in different sports in consecutive olympics even if you are a natural athlete (which i'd assume most of the people who compete in the olympics are tbh)

Here they go, this could be Norn Iron's 1st gold since Mary Peters apparently!

Damn...that means Norn Iron would have got a velodrome just like they built a track when MP won.
Wendy grew up near where I come from. It's the armpit of Norn Iron so I wish sucess for anyone from Maghera.
I;m disappointed. She didn't ride well. Must have been nerves.

You're disappointed because you actually know what it's like to ride out to a TT on a wet Sunday morning and do 10 or 25 miles dodging traffic. Rebecca Romero never really did that; Wendy did. That's the main reason.

I agree - but twisted is coming from the grass roots of the sport and I see his point

How many more golds can we win on two wheels then?

Men's team pursuit, men's and women's sprint seem certainties. Great chance in the Madison. Any hope in the women's points race?

Oh and then there's Shanaze Read in the BMX - never been beaten

Anything on in the mountain bikes?

but remember the work that RR must have been putting in to get to the top of the sport in rowing. its not like she just got parachuted into cycling with no pedigree and no hard work to get to the peak of athletic fitness. just because the hard work, long days etc started off in a different discipline doesnt invalidate or detract from her achievement imo

of course it doesn't but twisted cares about the achievement of Bristish cycling over the achievements of Rebecca Romero

Men's sprint!

Womens point race has Rebecca Romero down as our contestant. Don't know how well she goes in that if she is even riding tbh.

Just googled her and she has her own website. She says she was approached by British Cycling?

Thanks and within British cycling I'd like to see success on the road. We need to be developing the sport so we're there week in week out at the big races pushing the Italians, Spanish, Americans and Russians around and adding to Cav's achievements at the Tour de France this year.
A hatful of golds every four years is nice but resources need to be piled in to help people joining the pro ranks.
