If the population get “sufficiently angry”, it won’t just be the Tories that go, it will be the legitimacy of the entire government. No government can govern without the cooperation of the people. Every government looks secure until it isn’t. The government of the Arab Spring liked more secure than ours, I’d say — they had authoritarian control. Didn’t help them, though, once people had no food.
Once a population is no longer content to be governed by those in charge, the replacement is unlikely to be more of the same. It’s a dangerous time, frankly — extremists of all stripes tend to dominate.
