Coronavirus: if you are able to offer help, please post here

Need advice now, FB PM's are not being recieved, this is essential for me now, for food parcels, care work applicants, any ideas?
Is this facebook messenger app on phone? I just had to sign out and sign in again, it seemed to be having a glitch (or uninstall and reinstall if that doesn't work). I was still getting messages when I looked at the facebook website - how I noticed messages weren't getting through to my phone.

Does anyone know my rights on social distancing? Work on hospital site in an office filled with people. Someone at work told me social distancing doesn't apply to NHS staff. Trouble finding anything on it. Grateful if anyone knows and could link me, thanks.

social distancing applies to everyone...both to keep us safe and also to keep other people safe. This virus hides so we must act as though we are all vectors of infection. Ni-one is immune, no-one is exempt. I find it helps when we realise that social distancing is a public good...for both ourselves and others...and most especially, to keep essential workers safe so they are able to safely carry on with their life-saving work.

What I mean to say is that the office is open plan and we are all on top of each other. Im wondering if we have the same rights to be working six feet apart and how to demonstrate these rights to our employer.

Are you a union member? If you have a rep or another contact in the union, they should be able to send some guidance on what your employer should be doing, without identifying you as the person who asked.

Ok thanks. I'm not a union member.

These are the normal rules, without taking COVID into account

How much space am I entitled to at work?
The total volume of the room, when empty, divided by the number of people normally working in it should be at least 11 cubic metres. In making this calculation a room or part of a room which is more than 3.0m high should be counted as 3.0m high. The figure of 11 cubic metres per person is a minimum and may be insufficient if, for example, much of the room is taken up by furniture etc.
But you should clearly be able to maintain appropriate distances from those you work with in the current situation.

How do your work mates feel? Maybe if a group of you mention this rather than just one person it would be easier and more effective.

To be honest I can't afford to lose my job especially in the current climate. There is massive nepotism going across a whole group of hospitals in which I work in and with. A colleague of mine took this nepotism up with HR and the union, and found out that they are all in bed together. That's why I never bothered to join the union. My manager has reacted badly to groups confronting her in the past and I just thought that if my being 6 ft away from my colleagues was a legal necessity then I could just point her to it. Seems as though yet again there's nothing legally black and white which just leaves us screwed. Rather than the applause for NHS staff Id much prefer the government to explicitly say that we cannot work at risk like this, and the legal is onus is on them to find safe appropriate working environments (offices).

I'm sorry to hear you and your colleagues are having these problems over and above the pressure I'm sure you're all under to do your work, and I'm sorry I'm not able to do anything much to help.

Good luck

That's alright, thanks.

I'm thinking of starting a firmly policed "Emergency Coronavirus Thread: Only post here if you need help now" thread because I find myself ignoring this thread because there's so much general chat going on (nothing wrong with that but I think it's easier to ignore as a result).

I know the urban community can be brilliant and helpful so it would be good to have just the one thread that 'means business' if you get my drift.

I don't want to disrupt this thread any more, so please just 'like' this post if you think it's a good idea - if it gains enough traction, I'll start the thread. If not, ignore it and I'll let my brilliant idea slip into obscurity :)

ANYONE IN LEEDS:
Wanted: Non-contact thermometer.

Supply chain currently run out of probe tips and ward thermometers do not work without them. Stores telling us can’t get til Tuesday earliest. Other wards guarding their tips. Non contact could see us through the weekend.

Will collect.

In sheffield, will soon need some face masks as i begin to have carers again

mutual aid support may be able to collect

also help publicising care job offers

Unbelievably I’ve managed to bodge a solution, by placing a finger over the sensor, and another ward are lending out. But ffs

OK, it's done: Emergency Coronavirus Thread: ONLY post here if you need community help NOW

Man with car in SW London (TW1 - but can travel). Almost certainly already had the thing. Finished my isolation period days ago. Can help with shopping, dog walking and general stuff.

GSH, into going out and staying in and curling up on the sofa. WLTM etc...

Due to my job I might have to temp rehome the dog imminently. She's young and energetic and very VERY affectionate. Very good with other young playful dogs and old not-playful dogs but can be a pita with young not-playful dogs. Unfortunately a traditionalist when it comes to cats. We're in London. Might not have to take up any offers but want to get my ducks in a row.

Also have to handle tearful requests for updates from me :(
