Great thread idea.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned it here yet, but existing Food Banks are one way in which help of various kinds could be organised.

Fozzie Bear has already posted a link to one in Hackney

and from their site I see that they are/were already looking for volunteers, including drivers to distribute and admin workers to co-ordinate things.

There's likely to be a growing need for these sort of networks to deliver stuff to those stuck indoors for a variety of reasons.

And for those of us with spare cash: give it to the Trussell Trust.

As well as being able to help with shopping drops in the north Essex area, I am also really, really chatty. So if anyone feels lonely during isolation my conversations are open :) I'm not very interesting but I can chat shit all day long. (Though working hours until lock down weds to Fri school hours 😁)

This thread is not really an "I need help" thread, it's a "I want to help" one. I'd be worried that anyone that actually needs help is going to find it hard to know who to ask. editor Perhaps a new pinned thread that is ONLY for specific requests for help would be a good idea?
I think from now on people should ONLY post up in this thread when they need help.

It's very kind that people are offering, but it's making the thread unwieldy. I'll edit the title too.

Bit worried about my dad, he had a quintuple bypass in January and hes meant to be seeing a cardiologist next week. The problem is if he got this it would finish him and he's not sure what to do about it. Is anyone in a similar position?

Yes. My Dad had a heart op last year. I think it'd kill him if her got it. Other that facilitating his complete self- isolation, I'm not sure what else I can do.

My nan is in her late nineties and is just getting over a chest infection (she is really susceptible to them), and has only recently moved into a care home who have asked visitors to stay away. Three of her four sons live local and she was having daily visits, but they are nearly all retired now and are meant to stay at home themselves. She is really switched on so to not see her children and the grand / great-grandchildren for months might be really difficult. I'm just glad she got to meet and spend time with her newest great-grandchild before all this kicked off, because for the next few months I think the only contact she is going to have with her family will be by letters, postcards etc (theres no phone in her room, and she is quite deaf anyway).

He doesn't mind the isolation part of it as he is an antisocial bastard anyway. He's very para about his health though :(

Bit confused this still doesn't look like I need help thread, though some may not want make it public and will contact posters direct.

My tesco slot for thursday has disappeared, already paid, so trouble in morning.
Lots of independent businesses are starting to do supermarket/takeaway style deliveries because people just aren't coming into their shops and it's the only way they're going to stay afloat. If you can't bring yourself to battle it out with Tescos this might be the worth asking around your local area about

Yeah - the thing is they live 180 miles away, and are rather set in their ways! They also can't live off takeaways.. not only does this virus target the elderly, but the elderly are also least equipped to deal with it. . I am hoping i can arrange a mate locally to do shopping for them... though i know it is a big ask.

Sorry what I meant by takeaway style was that some of the impromtu delivery services from different high street shops operate like how when you phone up a takeaway restaurant they send stuff out straight away, whereas other shops delivery services are more like a supermarket where you book a slot in advance. I was trying to describe how deliveries from eg the grocery stalls in your local market hall might be functioning rather than tell you that you should order takeaways. I can see how all this is a garbled mess though so I'm not suprised I confused you and in any case it sounds like it's not useful information for your specific situation. Super glad you found a resolution, good luck with it all

Lots of the independent places round here - Worcestershire - are doing this: the butcher, couple of greengrocers, the bookshop.

I shall, over the next 14 days, report of the effectiveness of such...

Hey everyone, my mum has a cough (not IT, she's had it since December) so we really shouldn't leave the house much at the moment. Is anyone able to sort food out etc?

We are greatly missing social interaction.

I wondered if FaceTime/Skype/Messenger vídeo calls for coffee might help. We do this with our friends and it certainly helps ease some of the isolation.

A few different separate groups of friends are doing this with virtual pub gatherings, tea and cake, movie night. I’ve not yet joined in but I probably will. Reminds me of times past on here when people would start a party thread.

people mentioning this on mutual aid sites, but without the caveat, if you can afford it, many vunerable people are already on their knees, some local shops are ok on price, most are not.

Need advice now, FB PM's are not being recieved, this is essential for me now, for food parcels, care work applicants, any ideas?
