Cars You Never See Anymore

The paint is completely fucked as the pigment in red paint is particularly prone to breakdown by UV light. That's not polishing out.

red paint seems to vary by manufacturers - my previous car was a red peugeot and hadn't really faded much by the time it was in its 20s (although the plastic bumpers had gone from black to grey). vauxhalls in particular have a tendency to be pink after not very long.

My car is a metallic red / orange 2007 Ford Fiesta, it doesn't seem to have faded at all.

You wait years for a Nissan Bluebird and suddenly they're everywhere.

Well, this is the second one I've seen this month.

If I see another before the end of the year then they'll no longer be appropriate for this thread IMO.

I have had two and liked the one that I put 2.4 Toyota junkyard engine in. It was 50% faster and 100% more reliable. A Honda 1.6 B series (7,600 rpm redline) would be a great engine swap. A K series is too tall unfortunately.

I've just renewed my membership at brooklands. The nice thing is, that despite being run by lots of old Crusty's, the correspondence is addressed dear hash as opposed to dear Mr tag. Nice touch.

Bit of a crap photo (was quite far away, it’s cropped) but this silver Datsun (?) looked the bollocks.

Other sightings to report in small town Portugal this week - Renault 4, Renault 5, ancient Corsas. Also saw a classic late 80s executive motor the Vauxhall Omega parked outside the cemetery. A school friend’s dad had a burgundy Belmont of similar vintage, bet there’s fuck all of those left.

There’s also someone driving round town in a bog standard Mk3 Escort which is not a common sight. My dad had one which I was taken out in a few times when learning but the lack of power steering (or much powered anything ) made it a bit confusing/hard work compared to my driving instructor’s whistles and bells Honda Civic.

There’s some beautiful old cars in Portugal. Where I used to live once a month there was a car market where people would try to sell their cars. Some wonderful cars would turn up.

There are also a good few in Madeira. Also Madeira has a few classic old buses n coaches. Very pleased and relieved to see the beautiful Alfa museum is still going. It won't be the same since the loss of the owner who was a true Alfisti.

When I lived in Sudan there were a lot of Anglias and Morris Oxfords about. Some 50s/60s trucks too. Often they were in poor overall condition but they were running and were every day transport.

Not a Datsun, a Mazda Luce (RX-4 in export markets) Coupe. It's a '72-'77 model with the NA 13B rotary. A wonderful car that I dearly wish I owned.
Cheers for the correction. Cars like this have such nice lines, the curve of the rear end in particular. Character in spades.

I did see a white datsun here a number of years ago, driven by an elderly couple and giving off that ‘one owner from new’ vibe. Also that odd Nissan I posted in the summer which had an Datsun logo on the boot (I guess poached off another car). Only other place I recall seeing one in relatively recent times was in New Zealand about nine years ago.

A lot of people here live in apartment buildings with large underground parking garages and there’s probably all kind of stuff buried away in them. Not much stuff parks on the street in the rain and no road salt means there’s 20-year old cars in decent nick all over the place and a fair bit of older stuff around too.

My 11 Golf has more rust than my 02 Astra, which has 180k on it. The difference is that the Stra spent most of its life in Andalucía.

Speaking of beautiful lines, a 156, sadly just a 2.0 which is in need of a little tlc. Could be a very beautiful motor

Compared to the 155 which was the last hurrah of Alfa's "Avant Garde" period, the 156 is just another FWD forgettable euro-box.

I think the market is sleeping on Breras at the moment. A manual 3.2 V6 Q4 would be a good purchase. I went to look at one last month but could not get past the uninspiring dark grey colour. Also, it's a GM V6 not the Busso so a new injector or coil pack will cost about 80 cents.

The 156 is a greatooking car. I loved my Brera, a very comfortable car if not very practical. Sadly it was only the 2.2 so very sluggish.

A nice and tidy little couple with reasonable looks that never really caught on. With 2.5L under the bonnet it should have some ooomph

Nissan Bluebird, dad had that for basically what seemed like my entire life, same car, ended up giving it away on freecycle since he was mod of the group and wanted it to go somewhere decent.
