Hang in there... It's a grim ordeal. And, back to silence.. I'll assume that if no one has said otherwise by lunchtime, completion won't happen tomorrow, dragging the whole thing on into another week. I also have loads of new classes next week
I'm sure I could find a cleaner, but to be honest with the help of a friend I would rather do it myself. I have to buy all the cleaning stuff anyway and want to make sure it's spotless - not sure I trust an unknown cleaner. It's only a small place and empty so shouldn't be too bad. It sounds strange but I've actually been looking forward to cleaning. I keep my current room really clean to make up for the dirty communal areas. I used to clean the communal areas here myself but stopped a while ago because it just made me angry (I was the only one who cleaned and everything would be filthy again within a few hours.) It will be a delight to be able to clean an entire place and know it will stay that way!Is there any of that you can outsource? For example the cleaning. Sometimes throwing money at the problem is the right option when short of time.
Internet can be done in a week. Or the wireless option mentioned earlier.
At least noone is telling me to keep hassling anymore
Yeah damn straight you're not waiting until July. To be fair your solicitor is making sure you're not left with their debt/charges, which looks to be a real possibility if they were handed the money.FFS. I really picked a good one, didn't I? This makes absolutely no sense to me at all, I thought that was the whole point of the faff about the charges on the property.
The vendors have contacted me this morning to advise that they are unable to pay the outstanding debt on the property until the end of July. I have therefore asked their solicitor if it’s possible to hold back the funds from the sale proceeds to pay off the debt upon completion.
It suggests to me that the proceeds from the sale of the flat are less than the debts secured against it and therefore in order to remove the charges against the property they're having to find funds from elsewhere. Why would they be expected to pay off the debts before completion? Isn't the whole point that the money from the sale will be used to pay the debts? I am so confused.
Do you have any idea what would happen in that case?It suggests to me that the proceeds from the sale of the flat are less than the debts secured against it and therefore in order to remove the charges against the property they're having to find funds from elsewhere.
I don't think there is any danger that you will inherit their debt, just that you might inherit their loose ends/admin.Do you have any idea what would happen in that case?

I am staggered at the thought that two adults could get into the amount of debt that an entire property sale wouldn't pay it off. I'm hoping they just misunderstood.
The whole point of a charge us that it gets paid off when the property is sold. It doesn't rely on the sellers finding the money to start with as that's why they have charges against the property.FFS. I really picked a good one, didn't I? That should be down to the solicitor to sort out.Or possibly just that there is no legal guarantee that they will use the sale funds to clear the debt and as such the debt will remain tied to the property.
Yes, this is why I am thinking that they are just confused - as the email says, they contacted the estate agent. The whole point of a charge us that it gets paid off when the property is sold. It doesn't rely on the sellers finding the money to start with as that's why they have charges against the property.
Unless they owe more on the charges than the property is worth.
