Buying a home and don't know how anything works

I know!! But my partner JWTFK plus we’d planned to take the kits straight after school and blah blah. That’s what’s ENRAGING ME. If you’re going to clean it leave earlier then have someone go in… not make us wait.
The couple above me moved out on Monday.

Their removal van driver had an accident and their removals got cancelled at the last minute. They had to find another set of movers at short notice and were still packing when the buyer turned up with all his stuff at 12. Buyer did not get in until after 4pm.

Not to worry anyone, but I once heard about a driver of a removal van who was doing an overnight move. He left the large van / small lorry with all their worldly goods parked on double yellow lines right up against the wall of a town centre prison and blocking the narrow junction that led to a street of houses. The van was removed by the police who couldn't find him to move it. About three hours they found him in a night club where he had sexually assaulted a woman, punched and kicked the door staff who took exception to this; to add to the joy they also found the 10 wraps of coke in his pocket presumably to help in the unloading the next day.

The move was delayed, apparently.

Wtaf, adds this nightmare to horrible possibilities over the next few days

Just pulled up down the street and the removal vans are still being loaded 😶
When we moved into our house, they were still loading and cleaning.. confusingly they’d used the same (quite new) moving service we had! We’d used the full packing service and they’d cheaped out, had loads more stuff than originally thought and were very difficult according to the movers… we were forced to retire for a pub lunch with the movers while they got out..

We got a call when we were 10 minutes away saying that the owners were still loading despite having the keys. We said we'd give them an hour and went to the pub :D

I’ve exchanged

Spoken to landlord about giving notice. There’s a snide term in the contract that giving 1 months notice has to be done on the day the rent is paid over each month (as specified in the contract).

As luck would have it that is tomorrow, June 11th, and this means that I will need to be out of this rental on July 10th. And their rent increase begins from July 11th

The thread breathes a collective sense of relief that A380 is here to allay everyone’s house moving fears :D

Hope the threads movers are having a productive and stress-free day :)

I’ve had a removals person quote today via a Skype call - amazing what technology can do. This is a bit more than the dodgy company quote but less than I’d expected from a company part of a national group.

Trying to work out the best move date with the below factors to consider.

1) I JGTFK on Thursday 30th June

2) I need a day after I’ve moved out to get this place cleaned.

3) My Dad can come down and help me on Friday 8th July for the weekend (for example with anything I need to buy in Ikea and some odd DIY jobs).

Therefore I think my best option is to move house Friday 1st July, which gives me a weekend to get sorted (plus maybe the Monday). Then get the rental property cleaned on the morning of Friday 8th July.

I have the whole period from 30th - 8th booked off work so all I need to do is cancel the dates I don’t want.

I think I’ve answered my own question now  but sometimes laying it out in writing like this is helpful.
