Assange seeks asylum in Ecuador embassy, London

Lessons from past embassy stand offs:

Manuel Noriega, President of Panama. Took refuge in the Vatican embassy in December 1989. The US bombarded him with loud rock music 24/7 until he could no longer stand it, walked out, and was arrested.

That is what we need, loud rock music :)

No such thing as bad publicity, the leaks are still coming out though not front page news every day like they were. As an individual he plays the media in a way an organisation wouldn't, creating hype, attention seeking PR man. like a pop star getting out of a car flashing her cunt it doesn't get covered only by the Graun, its in the Daily Mail where it needs to be, leaks need broad based support and if they were some lefty org the mainstream media wouldn't touch it

There's TV show in this - cross between Running Man, and The Warriors - with a bit of Hard Target thrown in - can he get from the Embassy to the Airport without being captured - can he make it on the plane - can the plane make it to his safe haven?

If it was Spooks, they'd solve it by getting a spook to don an Ecuadoran chauffeur outfit, and drive Assange straight to the Swedish Embassy instead of to Heathrow.

If it was 24, Jack Bauer would disguide himself as a pizza delivery man, smash in through the front door and kill everyone including Assange. Which would tie up a few loose ends.

Tell that to Gary Glitter.

So you support then his extradition to sweden?
as it goes no...
thats just a stepping stone to an extradition/ Manning situation?
I do believe he needs to face a justice system over the allegations.... I believe as activists we should demand that as soon as his ass hits Ecuador we set the process in place.... and people will...

As you well now there aint nothing clear in this whole mess.... the only thing I see is... get him out of britland and face a court... ffs the swedish prosecutors refused to interview him a while ago at the embassy?

we live in interesting times lol
:hmm:

The only justice system it makes sense for him to face is Swedens, and his ass wont be hitting Ecuador.

:hmm:

Not because of this shit though.

How is he going to face a fair trial over the sexual charges/allegations without going to sweden then?

I think you may have misunderstood what today means - he is not going to Ecuador. That is not what todays decision means.

I understand he has 'sanctuary' there?
So the court of human rights ain't worth shite then?
They get prosecuted in countries where they didnt commit 'offences'
oh and 'allegedly' already convicted in the states for non-sexual crimes... shows their priorities hey?
Gonna be one of them pick your side moments.... As someone who has protested physically against @shannon stopovers illegally due to the USA 'transporting' folk.....
I hold no love for any state nor assange.....

feck talking... do something innit?
I'm out of this thread....
just pick a side and do something innit......

Did you answer my question?

Gaining political asylum in ecaudor doesn't get him to ecaudor.

Do something to achieve what? You don't mean just do anything to support anything so what do you mean?

It looks like he wants a guarantee from Sweden now that they'll not hand him to the US. I think the best result for Wikileaks woul be for him to get this guarantee, then go and be questioned.

Ive lost touch with this, but didnt he already ask, at hte beginning of the process, to go and be questioned and they refused? When I read all this im not sure if im reading the MSM version of events, which from earlier reading didnt seem to match the reality. Anyhow this made me lol.

Reporting from Quito, Reuters reports:
He argued that Assange's personal security was at risk, extradition to a third country without proper guarantees was probable, and legal evidence showed he would not have a fair trial if eventually transferred to the United States.
"This is a sovereign decision protected by international law. It makes no sense to surmise that this implies a breaking of relations (with Britain)."

Ah from earlier up the page

So some of the facts that were not [reported] right were that Julian offered himself for interview numerous times in Sweden and was knocked back by prosecutor Ny with various excuses. The particular chosen officer, the only one in Sweden, was sick, or was away. He offered to fly back in — no that couldn’t be done either… Unsuccessful in obtaining an interview with the prosecutor, Julian had business to attend to in releasing Cablegate and had to meet with media partners abroad. Marion Knight gave him permission to leave and he went to do his business. He found out that Nye now wanted to do an interview with him as soon as he’d left the country. He offered to fly back in on the 9th and 10th of October and she refused saying that it was a weekend, he offered to fly back on the 11 th October, she refused saying it was too far away. And this was all around the time of Cablegate coming out. The US knew that this was happening because Julian had contacted them and asked them to help with the redaction and they refused. So they knew it was coming up. Collateral Murder was out on the 4th of April. The Gillard coup was the 26th of June. The Afghan War Diaries was the 25th [of July] and the sex allegations were on the 20th of [August]. So it is all working quite nicely for them isn’t it?

The MSM version seems to run along the lines that he is running scared and has refused to come back, which is clearly bollocks.

No he didn't, He ran away from questioning.

I think he's a bit of an egoist and a twat, but quite frankly if anyone professing he should 'do the right thing' was in his position i doubt they'd be pontificating in the same manner as they are on here.
