Apology for forced adoptions in the past

Apologies if there is a thread on this already. I had a bit of a cry earlier on BBC News when they interviewed women who had had their children adopted in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s for being unmarried at the time of birth. They are demanding an official apology for their inhumane treatment.

I watched that. It was painful. My mother was unmarried when I was born in 1963. My mother has spoken about the pressure she was put under to have me adopted, but she was 23 so she was able to keep me. I guess her age meant she wasn’t forced into it like the women in that programme. Tragic.

Mr W was born in 1966 and adopted at 6 weeks old. He doesn't know what the story is other than that his birth parents weren't married when he was born. He tried to make contact with his birth family having found an uncle on Facebook but he refused to pass on details to his mother and basically said it was all in the past and they didn't want anything to do with him. I found these stories rather painful to read.
