And next, Syria?

perhaps of interest to readers of this thread

I don’t really have anything intelligent to add atm. Not surprised obvs by the Iranian involvement and the Shia-supremacist ideology at play. Wasn’t aware that Afghan militias were involved.
They's been using Afghan men but also including child soldiers for years:

They round up people working illegally in their shitty near slave industries - imported by state-fed contractors quite often - and then threaten them with deportation/other punishments unless they join their jihadi militias.

Who is currently in Turkey posting lots of vids of the ongoing carnage in Idlib. He ishoping to make it to Europe but has already been turned down by France.

Turkey will strike Syrian government forces "anywhere" if one more Turkish soldier is hurt and could use airpower if need be, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said.

Addressing the country's parliament in Ankara on Wednesday, Erdogan said Turkey is determined to push Syrian government forces beyond Turkish observation posts in the northwestern Idlib region by the end of February.

Been coming across a lot of talk about whether or not Turkey should ‘take on’ Russia in Syria.

Not sure what to make of this as I know fuck all about the region and what impact any increase Turkish involvement would have.

They have supplied Manpads to rebel factions resulting in two Syrian airforce helicopters (used to drop barrel-bombs) being downed last week and a subsequent drastic reduction of helicopter overflights. Not so for the Russian airforce however who continue to bomb indiscriminately.. The Turks are very reluctant to engage the Russians directly for political, economic and military reasons. Recent talks between the Turks and the Russians over the situation in Idlib have broken down with 'no acceptable solution' - Erdogan,

Whether they make good on their threatening noises remains to be seen. They have however moved a significant amount of troops and armour into the area.

The loss of somewhere in the region of 30+ Turkish troops in a night operation points towards the Russians being involved, contrary to Turkish meda reports, which is probably partly why they've shut down social media. The Turks are as before desperate to avoid all-out conflict with the Russians, and their response; as before?

Not the only response it would appear. SAA Armour decimated and in all likelyhood accompanied by large loss of life:
