The next American Civil War

I admit to not having read the previous 11 pages, but does anyone think civil war is a real possiblity? Even assuming all the state militias get together -- unlikely -- the US Army would make short work of them.

Maybe not a full scale civil war but the various right wing militias are certainly capable of conducting a low level insurgency - assassinations, bombings, tit for tat killings. Escalating political violence sparked by a Trump defeat or arrest is definitely a possibility.

they should just make it official and let Texas succeed, then cut all. federal funding and let it run for a few month

require them to have passport to enter the USA and stop them flying the flag as they are no longer a state or a protectorate

If it gets to also walk away from national debt they might take that deal

I mean they stormed a govt building and tried to kill opposition leaders last time so…

It would also cut the length of the US border with Mexico by more than half, creating a buffer zone - probably wouldn't be long before Oklahoma talked about building a wall and making Texas pay for it

more to worry about

" “This is a biblical, monumental moment that’s been put together by God,” one convoy organizer said on a recent planning call. “We are besieged on all sides by dark forces of evil,” said another. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God. It is time for the remnant to rise.” "

off to a bad start tho'

hmm a small country near the USA with oil

it will work out well for them
This is probably the first time Texas has ever been referred to as "small". Anyway, the Texiteers are going to be like the Quebecois and the Scotch Nats, all hat and no cattle.

"He marched them up to the top of the hill, and he marched them down again."

That depends on who is in charge of the troops. During 1/6 they were afraid to call out troops because they were worried that they were on the side of Trump and his coup attempt.

Charles Flynn, the brother of Michael Flynn was in charge of some of those forces. Michael Flynn was a close adviser to Trump and was in the room when this was being planned.
He has publicly supported 1/6 protesters and was pardoned by Trump before he left office.

This is why its imperative that Trump not get back into office. We may not survive a second coup attempt.

His country trained him to fight. Then he turned against it. More like him are doing the same

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. (AP) — The U.S. military trained him in explosives and battlefield tactics. Now the Iraq War veteran and enlisted National Guard member was calling for taking up arms against police and government officials in his own country.

Standing in the North Carolina woods, Chris Arthur warned about a coming civil war. Videos he posted publicly on YouTube bore titles such as “The End of America or the Next Revolutionary War.” In his telling, the U.S. was falling into chaos and there would be only one way to survive: kill or be killed.
Arthur was posting during a surge of far-right extremism in the years leading up to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. He wrote warcraft training manuals to help others organize their own militias. And he offered sessions at his farm in Mount Olive, North Carolina, that taught how to kidnap and attack public officials, use snipers and explosives and design a “fatal funnel” booby trap to inflict mass casualties.

While he continued to post publicly, military and law enforcement ignored more than a dozen warnings phoned in by Arthur’s wife’s ex-husband about Arthur’s increasingly violent rhetoric and calls for the murder of police officers. This failure by the Guard, FBI and others to act allowed Arthur to continue to manufacture and store explosives around young children and train another extremist who would attack police officers in New York state and lead them on a wild, two-hour chase and gun battle.
Arthur isn’t an anomaly. He is among more than 480 people with a military background accused of ideologically driven extremist crimes from 2017 through 2023, including the more than 230 arrested in connection with the Jan. 6 insurrection.
"thank you for your service" etc.

Eh? If he gets back into office he wont need to orchestrate a coup, Im probably not reading what you actually meant

Yes, I probably needed to be more precise in my language use. What I meant was that he'll install himself as dictator and never leave. Before that, he'll dismantle much of the government and install his own cronies. People are already thinking about what they've said online and other places and curtailing what they say. He's been given immunity by the Supreme Court. He will use it.

The Americans Prepping for a Second Civil War

According to an analysis of FEMA data, some twenty million Americans are actively preparing for cataclysm—roughly twice as many as in 2017. Political violence, including the spectre of civil war, is one of the reasons.

A recent study conducted by researchers at U.C. Davis concluded that one in three adults in the U.S., including up to half of Republicans, feel that violence is “usually or always justified” to advance certain political objectives (say, returning Trump to the White House).
In May, Ray Dalio, the billionaire founder of Bridgewater Associates, one of the world’s largest hedge funds, told the Financial Times that he believed there was about a thirty-five-per-cent chance of civil war breaking out in America.

“We are now on the brink,” Dalio said, noting that a modern civil war—though it might not involve muskets—would see the fracturing of states and widespread defiance of federal law. In June, Dalio upped his estimate to “uncomfortably more than 50 percent,” predicting “an existential battle of the hard right against the hard left in which you will have to pick a side and fight for it, or keep your head down, or flee.”
