Well, is it?

I am massively looking forward to Cross Record's Wabi-Sabi, out later this month, on the basis of this track (starts slowly, but bear with it at least till 2.39 or so):

And almost as much to Savages' Adore life, also out soon, on the basis of this:

Rockwell's Obsolete Medium came out right at the arse end of 2015, so missed for the Urban charts...

LCD Soundsystem
How can you recommend an album that hasn't even been recorded yet?

It might be a load of dreary ballads, like their Xmas single. Or a load of self-indulgent toss. Or the sound of a band that should have stayed split up. Of course, it might be a searing return to form that'll have even the haters salivating or, most likely, more of the same that'll keep the fans happy. But until at least some of the music's out there isn't it a bit premature to be recommending it?

History/experience - the same as for all the records mentioned thus far. The new Tindersticks might see them make a turn to Norwegian Death Metal, who knows?

Hinds album out tomorrow, Half Japanese in a couple of weeks

That's the thing - history/experience shows that most bands turn to shit at some point, or at least put out albums that are better forgotten. You don't know until you hear them.

Anyway, since we're looking forward to what's coming out this year Andrew Weatherall has a new album, Convenanza, out in February. Here's a taster:

The Confidence Man

And maybe Chromatics will manage to release Dear Tommy this year, after it was due to be released early last year.

I Can Never Be Myself When You're Around

I'm going to stick with my original prediction of Whigfield-style Eurocheese dancefloor anthems.

But yeah: I've only heard the one track from each of the albums in the OP, and they're both bands whose previous stuff I've liked ok but not loved, so the albums could turn out to be rubbish for all I know, but that's not a reason to ban them from mention on the thread until we can conduct a proper autopsy. I liked those two tracks enough to consider them worth flagging up for the benefit of anyone else who might also like them and want to watch out for the full albums.

Thanks, I've been meaning to update my footwork and dnb collection for a while, I think this will be one of the first.

A Nissenenmondai album mixed by Adrian Sherwood is out soon on On U/Warp. i heard the test pressing as i am special, sounds pretty great, ultra minimal techno.

New David Bowie album out today, on his 69th birthday:

Having a first listen now, it's not bad.

I'm mostly looking forward to the new one from The Joy Formidable sometime later this year.

I quite like the JT The Goon album, instrumental grime type stuff, all a bit simple & samey but quite a nice listen.

Liking the new Bowie LP too.

"Heavy Air", serious album of the year contender from the Lavender Flu, an epic double of ultra-dense LSD music from ex-Hunches

Fat White Family album is great on first listen, need to go back to it.

Colin Stetson is releasing his new album in April it's a reimagining of Gorecki's third symphony.

Tim Hecker's Love Steams is out soon.

John Metcalfe has got a new one out, "The Appearance of Colour". Heard this track "Gold, Green" on BBC3's Late Junction last week and fell straight in love with it.

Just listened to "Is The Is Are" by DIIV and it's lovely.

Released in either 2013 or 2015, depending which website you believe. Not this year, anyway.

I like what I've heard of the new Pet Shop Boys album (produced by Stuart Price aka the Think White Duke aka Les Rhythmes Digitales).

Also Matmos have a new LP out on Friday. It's single track is described by them as "an exploded view of the machine, hearing it in normal operation, but also as an object being rubbed and stroked and drummed upon and prodded and sampled and sequenced and processed by the duo”. Pseuds Corner anyone?
