17 year old private school student cleared of friend's murder

I feel like this thread could be merged with Does class still matter?

Re: not having indulged in a £400p/w coke habit for several days being a mitigating factor, that is an audacious defence right there and one which I'd like to cite in any future arrest that may be my misfortune — never having taken the stuff should see me let off with a warning on most stuff up to manslaughter I reckon.

Does it work on a hypothetical basis, do you think? I mean, would saying "I am not now, nor have I ever been, in possession of £400 per week, therefore I have not spent £400 on coke (or even food) in the last week, so I will go home now, please, ta very much, Mr/Ms Judge/yer honour"?

Rejecting Adam Chowdhary's application for continued anonymity, Mrs Justice Steyn ruled naming him was justified by "public interest in open justice".

"The most significant aggravating feature was that [Chowdhary] bought the knife with which Yousef was killed," she said, adding that possession of a knife was "a serious offence" and there was a "strong public interest in knowing the identity of those who commit serious offences".

What's the minimum sentence for carrying a knife?

Also, for carrying a knife with intent to wound? *

* Since they conspired to use them in an attempt to rob a drug dealer.

Had this happened 15 miles to the north both surviving boys would have been sent down for many years.
There was a case in Manchester, more specifically Moss Side, where several youths were sent down because of the controversial 'joint enterprise' laws.
