Went past a local, independent Bakers today, saw these and thought of you lot on here; I bet some of you think these are acceptable rolls and fit for human consumption. This is very much not a one-off, they always have a tray of burnt, crusty rolls for sale. Yes, they deliberately bake them like this and some weirdoes obviously buy them! WTAF.

I usually have one with fried egg and black pudding. Not tried the vegetarian "black pudding" but that should work if it's vaguely similar.

Anything fatty and savoury probably works well tbh.

What do people like about burnt rolls, though?

Well my mum would always ask us to get her a well-fired half loaf or some well-fired morning rolls and that was a normal thing to ask for. Supermarkets sold them too. (This was in Scotland mind so no idea about elsewhere.)

I remember them on sale in NE England as a kid, but that probably had a sizeable Scottish contingent.
