Used to be a brother and sister in infants who had sugar butties and a chunk of marzipan for their dinners most dinner hours. Probably dead now.White bread and sugar. Surprised I didn’t develop diabetes the amount of those I scoffed down as a kid.
I love marzipan, and used to eat it by the block. I can't buy it now or I'd immediately slip back into those bad habits.Used to be a brother and sister in infants who had sugar butties and a chunk of marzipan for their dinners most dinner hours. Probably dead now.

The best way to eat is to open the block you can get from the home baking section and eat it like a bar of chocolate. I did used to always feel sick after finishing a block, but it is weirdly compulsive...I've never been able to stand marzipan, you can have my share

I genuinely didn't know there was such a thing as a red onion until my twenties
Me neither. Red onions are clearly middle class foodstuffs.I genuinely didn't know there was such a thing as a red onion until my twenties

Yep. Corned beef and mustard or brown sauce in white bread was a staple lunch when I was a kid.
No onion though... and no crusty roll. A crusty roll was a luxury.
meat and potato pie on a roll with loads of brown sauce
Ooh is cheese & picked beetroot on here yet? I recall a colleague referring to it as ‘prole food’ when served at the canteen. I love it esp toasted.
Nobody puts brown sauce on a pie barm. And it's a barm not a roll. Only middle class people say roll.
Corned beef has a rep for being slightly grim working class fodda here
