Aw man you are missing out. It's quite a radical series. Not a weekly reset. It beat adventure time to the lesbian lovers in a kids cartoon award.
Having said that, I have not watched it for ages. Can't remember if that's because it got to the end of a season and it's not on, or I just forgot.

I think it was a Japanese programme about a Buddhist folk tale set in China.

Saiyuki (called monkey in the UK) is a Japanese TV show about the Chinese legend 'journey to the west'. It's a popular tale in Japan with many many adaptations.

Interestingly the title song is the same in Japan and was always sung in english. Not sure why.
