What's for tea tonight? (#8)

I think I am going to make this macaroni cheese but with penne as we don't have macaroni and with tiny baby tomatoes mixed in to the dish as they needs using up and I like something to breakup the stodge.
Now, I want peas so shall I put them in the macaroni cheese or have them on the side?

Yep, ful moudmas I can type up later, it's from this:

Ful Gnaoua

* 1 tin black eyed peas (cowpeas), or similar
* 2 tomatoes, grated
* 1 large onion, sliced
* 3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped or crushed
* 4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or coriander
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
* 1 1/2 teaspoons sweet paprika
* 1 teaspoon chopped fresh ginger
* 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
* 1/3 cup olive oil

Put all of the ingredients in a saucepan with one cup of water, bring to the boil and simmer until it reaches a thick sauce.

Cheers! Looks like a great book that :cool:

What veggie stuff have you been having recently?
Maybe we can help think of something yummy and diffident to break things up a bit.

I eat lots of things that are based around tinned tomato, beans and pulses so things like chilli, veggie bolognaise, spicy south american inspired soups and curries.... Its be nice to have something not tomato based i think

Mmm red thai curry is one of my faves. The halloumi option sounds great too.

I can't stop thinking about chicken kiev, mash and beans!

Ooh chicken kiev :oops: Sorry

I would even contemplate putting fried off cubes of halloumi in the thai veg curry instead of tofu. But then gain I am not a fan of tofu.

Hmmm thai halloumi curry that sounds bloody fit!

Or some kind of breadcrumbed lumps of goats cheese all gooey in the middle.... Sod it. I might just have a load of cheese for dinner!

Mince n dumplings with new taties because it is freezing and I need some stodge inside of me :cool:

I only like really cheap chicken kievs... comfort food thing :oops:

You got recipes for the moudmas and gnoua mate?

Yer'tis:

Ful Mudammus (Egyptian Breakfast)

2 x 300g tins fava (broad) beans (or soak the dried beans then boil til soft)
4 tbsp olive oil
Salt & pepper
½ tsp ground coriander
½ tsp ground cumin
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 cloves garlic (crushed)
4 hard boiled eggs
2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander
Boil or microwave the beans until quite soft, then drain and pour into a mixing bowl.

Add 2 tbsp oil, salt, pepper, coriander, cumin lemon juice & garlic. Stir well, allowing some beans to become crushed.
Transfer to four serving bowls, place an egg on each, drizzle with more oil and sprinkle with chopped coriander.

The original recipe used less beans and twice as much lemon juice, but I like it like this. None of the versions of this I’ve seen of this elsewhere include the egg, but I reckon it makes it. If I‘m doing this for loads of people, or I feel like it, I chop the egg and mix it in.

Lazytea - grilled breaded fillet of haddock and leftover couscous/veg from last night. Might have some cheese and biscuits for afters.

I've got some smoked mackerel. but my mate at work has just given me some stinky garlic sausages he's been telling em about for ages, so I might have them :)

When you say a 'mate gave them to you' did you find them hidden at the back of a drawer or something?

Fortunately not, though how long he'd had them I don't know. He did say that he opened his bag on the train and the stench of garlicky meat which filled the carriage resulted in him getting a lot of filthy looks :)
