What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Chicken madras and basmati rice.

Chopped onion and garlic fried in olive oil with black peppercorns, cardomon pods, cumin seeds and crushed chillies. Cover with lid until all pods have burst.

Add chopped vegetables (any) and madras spices. Simmer for 20 minutes. Finely chopped ginger and lemon rind. Coriander powder. Simmer for a further 10 minutes.

Turn the heat up and pour in a pint of water, chopped tomatoes and tomato frito/puree. Salt to taste. Add chicken pieces. Boil at a high heat for ten minutes. Add more madras and coriander. Simmer for 30 minutes.

In the meantime you have prepared the rice.

Serve with fresh bread.

How were your falafel crustychick ?

I'm thinking Thai green curry with tofu and veggies and some konjac noodles for tea tonight, depending on if the veggie shop has fresh tofu or not. Maybe tofu-skin sticks otherwise, but I'm a bit :hmm: about the flavour.

Hopefully I'm going to a friend's house tonight for takeaway for her birthday.
I've still got to feed the menfolk though, I think I'll do them a nice easy pasta and sauce.

All this lovely sounding middle eastern grub has given me the momentum to actually soak some beans over night for tonights tea. Takes 2 minutes & dirt cheap but I never get round to it and end up buying tins :(

We will be having ful moudmas, ful gnoua and couscous with feta and harissa. Might get some humours but probably doesn't need it, just wanted to say humours.

I burned the chickpeas :)o) and then I had to work late... so the falafel making has been put back to tonight, assuming I can rescue the chickpeas, or some of them anyway! I think they taste more interesting anyway, kind of smoky :hmm: :D

:D

I used udon style konjac noodles with our tea. Really not enjoying the texture in such large noodles. :hmm: It's all bouncy.

I know, but I don't know the shops round there :oops: if you can't find some I'll post you some... it's what you should eat ful with :D

I have a couple of new favourite corner type shops at the end of my road, I'll test their mettle with this request :)

It was alright...would have been better had it not been made with really greasy supermarket mince. I get all our meat from the local butchers now but these were hanging around in the freezer from the last lot of orrible mince and they let the meal down a bit. Sauce was lovely though, plus I made a carrot salad to go with it that was quite nice.

God knows what's happening tonight. I have got some shitty chest infection virus thing and feel like arse. Just in time for the school holidays, again :mad: So not really hungry, just want to go to bed.
Aww :( hope you're feeling better very soon chick

Well, we've got the fella's son round for his tea tonight, so making chachouka, but THIS time I have a cunning plan for the eggs. I seriously cannot time the fuckers to perfection when I bake them, so I'm gonna poach the little bastards instead and plonk them on top when I've served it all. :cool:

More of my lass's birthday cake for afters - it's a mahoosive Thornton's choccy cake so there's tons of it

You got recipes for the moudmas and gnoua mate?

Yep, ful moudmas I can type up later, it's from this:

* 2 tomatoes, grated
* 1 large onion, sliced
* 3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped or crushed
* 4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or coriander
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
* 1 1/2 teaspoons sweet paprika
* 1 teaspoon chopped fresh ginger
* 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
* 1/3 cup olive oil

Put all of the ingredients in a saucepan with one cup of water, bring to the boil and simmer until it reaches a thick sauce.

I've made very similar in the past, didn't know it was an actual well-known dish. I just raided the cupboards I reckon.

Its like the middle eastern equivalent of dal, simple and bloody lovely, I bet you could change loads of it depending on what you had in and have a good side.
