What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Made a pretty good lentil sambar with idlis and small shrimp for dinner. The OH liked it so much, he requested it for again for supper, though I served it then with just freezer-dough naan, sour cherry/apple chutney and a couple of different achars, my most recent carrot one and a store-bought lime one.

I think I've redeemed nyself. :D

how do you make idlis - they are my favourite south indian breakfast, ever  I always thought they were really hard....

I was going to do a bolognaise(ish) sauce in the slow cooker today, but when I looked in the cupboard this morning we'd run out of onions. I thought about doing it without the onions but BoatieBloke looked horrified at the suggestion. I'll pick up some onions on the way home tonight and try again tomorrow.
So I've no idea what's for tea tonight, possibly breaded fish from the freezer with new potatoes and peas.

Do I recall that you don't like quiche, madz? Or is that someone else? I hope you're feeling alright too. :)

I'm taking Mr Yu to a Taiwanese place for tea, cos he got top marks on an observation at work today and I'm very proud of him.

We've been given some leftover big bags of catering stuff, so I am going to use a load of the 'autumn slaw mix' (and take out the red cabbage bits), a load of the chopped carrots, the chives, the red onions, and the curly parsley, and am going to make a big veggie soup with it. Will bung in spuds, turnip, thyme/bay leaves, tomato puree and veg stock, garlic, a parmesan rind, and possibly some 'broth mix'. Unsure of what exactly is IN a 'broth mix' so will check out in the local veg shop, and if it looks okay, and doesn't need soaking, that will go in too

Yesterday we had pub meal, today I'm double over in pain, safer to cook for myself these days :(

Although tonight, husband is cooking... steak, mushrooms, eggs. (I might have steak with broccoli and green beans)

No idea, could have been the cider (less than two pints!), more than two years now and I only know of a couple of things that definitely set it off. Grit my teeth and hope it gets better, I need to get back to being chipper, helps me ignore the pain :D

:( Boo, hope the pain goes soon bee.

We are having beef tomatoes stuffed with rice, lamb mince, dill and mint.....except I forgot to buy dill and mint so it'll be cumin and spices instead! Never made this before so it's new territory for me.

My mum's coming and I'm going to try out my new 'beer butt chicken' stand  although I'll probably just stick some stock and herbs in the can. Still got some pesto left, so will spread that inside some pitta breads and stick those in the oven for a few minutes to have with it...and I think my mum's bring some asparagus too (as well as some sort of CAKE  ).

This sort of thing.....

:D :(

(supposedly keeps the meat nice and tender PLUS crispy skin ALL OVER! I'm doing mine in the oven though, obv....WAAAAAY too cold for a bbq! )

Will do, beers steamed on the inside innit ;) was wondering more about the stand :D

Oooh good suggestion and I have some cinnamon - I was thinking maybe a bit of ras al hanout and we have some fantastic chilli and garlic sauce which I seem to put in everything at the moment!
Ras al hanout would work well I reckon, and maybe a squidge of tomato puree :)

Ah  - well I got this one (because it was only £3.75 and free delivery, so significantly cheaper than the others)...

...thing is, it's too narrow for a standard tin, but as suggested in the reviews a red bull sized can works fine - and my son is partial to those cheap tins of pop you get for like 25p or something :D which are the same size, so I bought him one on Monday in preparation for today, which was a bonus for him cos I'd never buy him that shite normally (he gets them out of his pocket money).... :p ...he was like 'WTF?!?  :hmm:  '.... :D

For a moment then I thought you were going to do redbull chicken! :D

You sure it won't squeeze on and hold the can tightly in place? I really want to come to yours for tea now!

You can *apparently* do them without a stand at all, tbf - just shove the tin up em ( :( ) and use their legs as the stand ( :( ) but I foresaw all sorts of terrible toppling accidents occurring with that method... :hmm:
