What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Son is currently making a mint chocolate tart to have after Sunday Dinner (lamb this week).

Includes
Blue Curacao Syrup (Orange)
Mojito Mint (spearmint)
Menthe Vert (peppermint)

Will be interesting to see how the flavours work together.
The agar-agar bit went wrong (too solid) and the ganache was not thick enough. Pastry was good.1000007446.jpg

Morrisons badly let me down today (they're usually really reliable) so I am without the leeks, broccoli, and savoy cabbage that I wanted as the steamed veg section (plus a few other meals in the days to come ofc) of a mini-roast tonight.
How can they have run out of so many veg? The service is declining a bit I reckon, never used to happen.

So I'm having a roast chicken leg with roast spuds, cauliflower and carrots. And gravy ofc. I might do some peas or spinach out of the freezer so I have some green veg in there.

Thinking about it, I like to use more of the green bit of leeks than most people so I wonder if my better soups have been made with leeks that've had a good hard frost to improve the flavour.
Do most people NOT use the green bits then?! I only leave about 1mm at the ends. I paid for a leek, I'm using the whole fucking thing! Also, the flavour is more intense that end anyway, and it gives a lovely colour to the soup.

Ime no. It's one of those things like people cutting the tail ends off beans that annoys me far more than it should

I really REALLY fancied saussies and mash, so have given in and got some of the Cauldron Lincolnshires, cos even though they are nowhere near as good as they used to be, they're still better than some of the shite I've tried.

So! Saussies, skin-on mashed spuds, a small hill of steamed Savoy cabbage and veggie gravy.

The fella was gonna make the cake I never got round to at the weekend, but he's feeling ill, so it's more chocolate. Hard life, innit?

Son and I prepared a duck to roast with Chinese hot pot marinade and many other delicious things then they whole day fell apart for pretty much the whole family so we had pasta or toast and good intentions for duck tomorrow when we've all had a good sleep.

Had a stressy couple of days with the cat being unwell (UTI) and trying to sort a vet appointment and ended up not having the wherewithal to cook or eat Monday night.
I am really tired but also hungry now so I'm just waiting for some butter to soften and I'm going to have a tin of leek & potato soup from the emergency "don't feel up to cooking" supplies and some bread and butter.

Am promising myself a nice cooked meal tomorrow however.

After two full days of tapas neither of us could face anything fried, so went to a basic Italian place for some nice plain fare. I had spaghetti with cherry tomatoes, basil and garlic; Mr K had a pizza.

Sending love x

Fella's got bloody Covid and is VERY ILL, so banned from touching my food :D I will be making feta-stuffed roast peppers, wholewheat fusilli tossed in ramson butter, and a mixed leaf salad with balsamic dressing.

Fit choccy sandwich cake with a bramble jelly filling, fresh blackberries, and a nice cup of decaff coffee.

Hope he starts feeling better soon and doesn't pass it on to you!
Your tea sounds lush tho

Me too. In the past, he's had it and I've not, and vice versa, so I might not, but I've got a spidey sense that I am being silently invaded, know what I mean? Am using Dentyl 3 times a day and taking 4 Sambucol and seeing if I can head it off at the pass!

Cheers :)

I am still well, phew! He is still ill, boo. I am feeding him up with all manner of goodness though, and he's getting the Dentyl/Sambucol treatment too, so soon over (fingers crossed!).

Think I'm gonna make a big-arsed macaroni cheese tonight, with roast vine toms and garlic.

More fit choccy sandwich cake and blackberries.
