What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Last night was the usual baked spud combo with some homemade coleslaw.

Tonight will be the quiche we would have eaten Tuesday but instead celebrated the offer of a place in a great school for eldest dawta with chippy tea .

Congrats on the school news ringo...:) ...and I'm sure your baked potato would have included the abomination that is cheese/mayo/beans/chilli sauce?

Tonight I'm attempting to make herby dumplings for the first time ever. I'm not esp keen on dumplings but my BF is and I'm making a quorn/veg casserole so it seems right. I shall also have roast potatoes for the 2nd time this week...:)

Cheers, it's been a hard won battle, I won't be able to relax until the move is complete and I know spanners have not been inserted in the works.

And yes, the baked spud was truly abominable :D

Tonight we shall be dining on Linda Mcs country pies

No we won't because I couldn't fucking find any. So - himself is on veggie saussies, and I'm on old english pork saussies, with champ, mashed carrots and turnips, garden peas not mushy peas cos I couldn't find any of them either  but I DID manage to find some dirt cheap veggie gravy granules - nom

Over ordered chinese takeaway last night so what was left of that. Including reheated egg fried rice. Twas nice knowing you all :D

Dunno if I have the kids tonight or not  (ex has disappeared off the face of the earth...was supposed to have the kids Tues but didn't hear from him and his phone's been off all week....can only assume he's got some work AND lost his phone  and that he'll roll up tonight :hmm: ...but there's no way of knowing that for sure till it happens - or not  - so am thinking I'd better plan to cook for them too....) so will probably do the chicken/veg/noodle soup that we didn't have last night in the end (cos the small girl decided we should have baked potatoes, chicken mayo and broccoli instead). Still got a piece of carrot and walnut cake left from my mum's visit that neither of the kids like enough to want any more :D so I'll probably have half of that for my pudding (they're very LARGE slices :D )....and more of the german cookies and some grapes for them.

Mrs SFM has been in India all week with work and is coming back today - phoned me yesterday to say that, after all the spicy stuff she's been living on, all she's dreaming of is a roast chicken dinner so will pull out all the stops to welcome her home! (Could murder a curry myself...) ;)

Fish and chips.
Jealous!
root veg soup - sweet potato, squash, celeriac and a few carrots... I think it might be quite orange :D
Nom

I think we are having chinese slow cooked beef but since cooking it and putting it in the freezer I've kind of forgotten what it was called  Anyway it is defrosting at the moment. Will probably stir fry some mushrooms and maybe pak choi or spinach to go with it. Plus rice. Then M&S cheesy popcorn as a treat!

That sounds great, do you smoke the chops yourself or do they come like that?

No, I don't smoke them myself. The abbattoir where we have our pigs killed is operated by an old school Bavarian and his sons who still use maple chips for smoking slowly, as opposed to slathering that awful 'liquid smoke' guck on the meat. They cure the loin whole and cut it into chops when it's finished. The result is what's called 'Kassler' in German.

We're off to the city for shopping today, so dinner hasn't been decided on. My vote will be for Japanese.
