What's for tea tonight? (#8)

better not let moonsi hear you say that :)

but I think broc would break up too much in a risotto - unless cooked first and just stirred through at the end. of course, the broken up effect could be what you're looking for, in which case - yes, go for it!
it'll be her treat for Monday ;)

I think I may do it on the side, I need lots of green today.

I finally got round to making Ottolenghi's garlic tart yesterday and will definately be making it again.
I thought it would be a bit rich and hard to eat lots of it but it all went in one sitting with everyone (including my little daughter) having seconds :)
We had it with roasted spuds and roasted beetroot, brocolli, carrots and peas with an apple and banana sponge pudding afterwards

An uninspired fridge cleanout: sliced goose breast and two goose legs, the very last of the lamb stew, two dishes of leftover veg, refried champ (with leftover homefries and some goat cheese added), three hard-boiled eggs and the ubiquitous green salad. You'd think a fabulous dessert would make up for the parsimoniousness of the above, but there's pound cake to use up, dammit.

Yeah, parsimonious. Positively mean. I imagine you might starve.

The Other Half was unimpressed. In his opinion I should have thrown the lot to the chickens and cats and made something that hadn't been 'previously enjoyed'. He often says shit like that on fridge clearout days. but I just can't bring myself to waste perfectly good food-- especially not organic, free range, never-frozen goose meat that's only a day or so old! He ate up, but grudgingly, with under-his-breath comments alluding to my supposed laziness (he'd been working outside in nasty weather all morning, while I was warm indoors doing admittedly little).

I'll make up for it tomorrow. :D

ETA: by "parsimonious", I meant unnecessarily frugal, not mean. The pantry's stocked, so are the root cellar and the freezers. The green house is still pumping out greens and baby bok choys faster than I can use them. I just don't feel right trashing perfectly usable food I've already gone to the trouble of preparing.

Baked potatoes filled with creamy blue cheese sauce, beef and ale pies and lots of green veg.
I'm now laying on the bed groaning as my belly is full (it is also hosting a 37 week old baby but I fear the enour ous dinner might leave that no room!)

Not sure if I have the kids or not tonight but if I do...pitta pizzas with pesto, baby plum tomatoes*, ham, mushrooms and cheddar.....and if not, more duck/noodle/veg soup.
French style set yoghurts and garden pears for pudding.

*Finally had to BUY tomatoes for the first time in months - there're still a few in the garden, but they're all green and it's getting colder now, so might have to bring them all in and try and ripen them indoors or do something with them as they are. :hmm:

Last night's risotto was lush, despite me making it with dessert wine - I don't drink white wine, and just grabbed the first little bottle :D

Tonight is meant to be root veg soup :hmm:

Hmmm...actually, I have a fair few red onions that are on the edge, and me darlin brought home a fuckton of basil (amongst other things) last night that the radio station he'd been on had given him. Might make a big batch of tom and basil sauce.

Just remembered I've got a jar of masaman paste in the cupboard, and me and our lass are on our own tonight, so I think I'll do a chicken and aubergine curry!

oh hum...late dinner here & I'm not doing quorn casserole as I have decided I want to make herby dumplings with it and I have no milk so will have this on Thursday.

So that leaves a quorn cottage pie (not home made) with giant roast potatoes, parsnips, roast carrots, & mixed veg from the freezer. I shall prob give us a quorn sausage each as the pie is small and the sausages need eating.
