What's for tea tonight? (#8)

It was my Mum's 76th birthday yesterday and she came for dinner.

We had roast rib of beef (on the bone - utterly gorgeous), yorkshires, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, carrots, cauli and broccoli.
I made proper gravy with red wine and I think it was quite possibly my best gravy yet (I roasted some shallots with the meat and they really gave the gravy an extra something)
Trifle (provided by mum) for pudding.

Tonight will be jacket spud with something healthy

Sounds TOTALLY DELISH, Boatie!!!

I'm going to put some skinless chicken thighs in the slow cooker soon with a bit of stock and some garlic/ginger/star anise/soy etc. Got no spring onions OR carrots or they would have gone in too, so will prob stick in some red onion and mushrooms too (which the small girl will pick straight out again  :D ). Rice, french beans and broccoli to go with it.

Great article, I agree with her. I've probably tried as many recipes as her and came to similar conclusions. She might also have tried Delia's so called 'perfect macaroni cheese' which is more like a soufflé and is the least comforting version I've ever tried. After decades of cooking it I either use the simple method she ends up with, or I add spinach and mushrooms to the sauce.

I think I need to own that book though. And have a proper read of the macaroni cheese competition. Should be in the Olympics, that.

Need something healthy as I took the weekend off cooking, which meant we had Indian delivered on Friday, pizza delivered on Saturday and Chinese delivered on Sunday.
Then the littlun produced her homework - a healthy eating diet diary she had to complete :oops:Insert Sheo levels of smilies/unsmilies:eek:

Mrs R wants fish. Littlun won't eat it so will have a veggie burger :)

Don't know. Our guests have promised us some kind of 'strengthening' dish cos we were all decadent Sat/Sun and ate nowt. Hope they do crumble too.

I think cheese will make an appearance, quite possible some bacon as well. Vegetable matter smothered in a cheese/bacon sauce?

Did a big roast gammon for Sunday lunch yesterday. Today will be split pea and veggie soup made with the leftovers and simmered for ages.

Veggie shepherds pie with cabbage and kickass mushroom gravy; about to make ginger biscuits for very late afters..

We had a small amount of enchiladas left and a bit of chilli that I couldn't squeeze in the dish yesterday. So that with nachos.

They look fucking freaky them, tufts!

Well, guests made stonking Swedish meatballs and gravy, and mashed spuds, with some kind of weird salad made with apple and grated carrot. Then we launched into a big box of Thorntons choccies that a tenant gave me

Tonight, we shall dine on pesto pasta, black olives, and parmesan, and then more choccies

mmmmm, think we'll have a thai inspired stir fry of mushrooms & smoked tofu with fresh mint & brown rice. i know it doesn't *sound* very appetising but it really is quite nom :)

I WAS going to do some stuffed marrow rounds, with a rogue marrow sized courgette I discovered in the garden :D ....filled with various combinations of onion/garlic/tomatoes/feta/rice and chicken (cos that's what I have to use up :D ) but my son's off sick today so I think I'll do that for lunch and we'll have pizza and salad later instead..... :hmm:
Raspberries and blackberries with meringues and low fat cream for pudding.
