What's for tea tonight? (#8)

An M&S £10.00 deal - slow roast pork, garlic mushrooms, some parmentier tatties (on offer at 50p, use by yesterday but, hey, I'm game :D) then hazelnut and caramel tarts.
I love M&S hazelnut and salted caramel tarts - got two in the frideg for tomorrow!!

I am definitely having sausage and mash tonight and NOTHING will change my mind. I'm even going to do a proper, dark roux for the gravy.

*thinks of things to post to tempt Tits*

:D

:hmm:

It's my lovely's birthday today, so I'm gonna make a spinach and chickpea gratin, with roasted tomatoes and garlic, and steamed broccoli and cauli. Then choccy cake with obligatory candles and a wish

Higgedy pies with mash. Normally with peas and gravy but I've got one of those massive baked bean fridge jars that needs using up so I expect I'll have beans & Mrs R will want peas and gravy. I may have gravy with my baked beans, even though it sounds like a really stupid idea nut I want both. Fucking stubborn, me.

Yesterday I did a full on roast - leg of lamb, roast pots, cauli, cabbage, carrots, leeks and red wine gravy - I'm eating the leftovers for lunch as I type. Lovely.

For pudding I did what was christened a 'jumble crumble' - I defrosted some goosecurrants, decided there wasn't enough for a crumble so I picked all the ripe blueberries and added them, decided it still wasn't enough so I added a bramley apple I blagged from my next door neighbour, sprinkled over some brown sugar and mixed spice and then topped with the crumble topping.
It has to be one of the best crumbles I've ever made - a perfect blend of sharp, sweet and spicy.

Jacket spud tonight, maybe with some orange pepper/courgette thingy as they need using up.

They're DELICIOUS!

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall ones (which I add a lemon drizzle icing to).
They freeze really well so I do a big batch and then just reheat them once defrosted.

Recipe here (and note the instructions for replacing some of the flour with ground almonds to make the frangipane ones, although I didn't use almond oil and added vanilla extract instead for a TRIO of delicious flavours :D )....

Btw - Callie made em and had a bit of trouble with them, but that's probably cos she didn't actually follow the recipe in the first place :p ...defo important not to over mix when you combine the wet and dry ingredients too though!

I finally got round to making these at the weekend - OMG, how fucking tasty are they?
(very fucking tasty in case you were wondering).
I offered one to the bloke and he said 'oh, just half a one for me'.
He broke off half and handed it back to me, but before he'd even finished the first mouthful, he'd snatched it back again.
I'll definitely be making them again.

Two nights in a row ;) it was a winner.

Now that I re-read this I'm starting to think that cheese with broccoli is a popular well know dish??? I'm sure I have disgusted you with the time that I was served a panni in Turks & Caicos which was melted cheese & broccoli plus other veggies that had no business being there. The broccoli was hanging outside of the bread!!! I told them that I was so sorry but I could not eat it but would pay for it. TBF the menu said 'veggie panni'.

Tonight I'm cooking a veggie cottage pie with plenty of veggies (frozen) plus roasties if I have enough potatoes. I am super skint & payday is the 29th.

what's your problem with broccoli?
it's well nice with cheese, in the same way that caulifower is

Y'see now broccoli in a sarnie... no, I'm with you on that (although I may have done it before ).

But this was a merging of broccoli cheese (cauli cheese but with broc) and macaroni cheese... what's not to like? :)
