I love cavolo nero, but curly kale's got too many sharp edges. Best thing you can do with it is 'crisps' or braise it with garlic and chilli, imho.Any ideas for curly kale? I'm not a big fan and deliberately chose a veg box this week which didn't have it - only to find they'd replaced the Swiss chard with kale.
Yeah I often have a side of worthy green stuff that isn't very interesting to eat, but I swiftly chomp through it and get on with the nice bits of the mealI just use kale as a veg side to a main meal. Have ordered some on the Big Shop to go with veggie sausage and green lentil 'supper'. Can't wait!
Cashews aren't true nuts either. They are a weird fruit thing.
I don't mind them, but I don't have them very much.
This it's how they grow - the weird external bean at the bottom is dried and split:

Peanuts aren't nuts, they are a type of legume - not related to other nuts, which is why people can be allergic to peanuts but not "real/tree" nuts.
Every day's a school day! Cheers!Cashews aren't true nuts either. They are a weird fruit thing.
Mind blownI know that there's a lot of confusion about what we refer to as nuts in culinary terms and what are actually biologically nuts - I had to look it up just now to remind myself.
Peanuts are a legume
Cashews, almonds and pistachios are drupes ie a seed inside a fleshy casing
Peaches and mangoes are also drupes but we eat the fleshy bit rather than the seed
True nuts are things like hazelnuts, acorns and chestnuts
Pecans and Walnuts occupy a space in drupe/nut no-man's land where they are not quite one nor the other.
It's nuts!
Steak & Old Peculiar Ale Pie (Lidl)
Baby Potatoes with Butter & Herbs (Really fancied chips but had them last evening)
Plenty of veg that I can muster from freezer
Red wine
Dessert will probably be Chocolate Chip Madeleines with Earl Grey tea
I don't mind them, but I don't have them very much.

I like cavolo nero too but curly kale is a bit meh. To add insult to injury the note in the box said they’d replaced the chard with lambs lettuce which I love. Kale crisps is a good call.I love cavolo nero, but curly kale's got too many sharp edges. Best thing you can do with it is 'crisps' or braise it with garlic and chilli, imho.
Do you actually have to actively massage it for 20 minutes? We're having pasta bake tonight.
I love curly kale! Steamed and dressed with lemon juice and salt, chucked in stir fries, added to pasta sauce, crisped up in the oven, fried with chilli and garlic...it's all good. It also makes a good salad with things like feta and pomegranate seeds - you just have to massage it with olive oil for about 20mins till it gives in and goes limp

That sounds amazing. Gonna do myself something like that next week now.I had some Philadelphia to use up, so pasta with mushrooms, philadelphia, chopped broccoli, a fuckton of garlic, a drop of truffle oil, a bit of smoked salt and some parmesan. Manna.
My sister gave me a set of three truffle oils for Christmas.
I just can't imagine kale being worth the effort. I like most veg, but am not a huge fan of kale tbh, we have it occasionally because OH loves the stuff but as far as I am concerned it is one of those veg I would happily substitute with a vitamin pill, should I be missing out on any essential nutrient by giving it a miss
I'm going out! A pre-theatre dinner:

Will almost certainly have the fried chicken followed by steak.
Burrata is like a very creamy, soft mozzarella. It's delicious.Quite tempted by the burrata, as I don't know what it is. I'd also be tempted to go burger.
