What's for tea tonight? (#8)

I just brought a bottle of Vermouth...

Tonight it's beetroot Risotto - pimped by replacing the dry white wine with something a bit drier - Vermouth.

not sure. i fancy making curried trout with white poppy seeds, but i don't have any white poppy seeds.

More umpteen-bean chilli and pilau rice. Bloody lovely last night this was. Was meant to last three nights. Won't. :D

Moar instant Ainsley lemon couscous...... it's so delicious and more importantly cheap! :(

Accompanied by spinach, kalmata olives, melon, raspberries, etc. Possibly I will woman up and eat my pomegranate...I love them but they don't love computer keyboards...

Panic diet binge before Boomtown, innit

Hickory smoked sausages with homegrown Vivaldi potatoes, mashed, with peas and sweetcorn.
Oatmeal and choc chip cookies for pudding and cherries for snacking on (have a kilo to get through as my step ma wants the pips for a 'wheat pillow')

I found a recipe for 'Mexi-baked tortilla' - which amounts to a tin of kidney beans mashed with chopped spring onions, garlic, lime juice, and chilli sauce (which I also add a fresh hot green chilli to, plus a handful of chopped fresh coriander, nom), then spread on a tortilla and sprinkled with cheese, topped with another tortilla and baked in the oven. It's fucking LUSH - and am gonna have it with tomato salad, green salad, lime and coriander couscous, plus sour cream and guacamole

Fuck me I can't WAIT - it's become one of my foody obsessions

Having my parents over and already mum and I are competing for 'time' in the kitchen.

I baked a garlic-buttery chicken thingy last night and dad said, 'it's the best chicken dish he's tasted for a while.'
And mum was kinda jealous and kept her head down...
Man, she's so fuckin' competitive - I suppose the good thing is that I will learn a few tricks from her.
I tend to pick up new and more traditional methods of Chinese cooking as she disapproves of my 'western' influences...still, there's always room for improvement and I'm eager to learn unpublished recipes

That sounds good Soj, have you seen any of Diana Kennedy's books? Amazing recipes, although getting the ingredients/working out alternatives is a bit of a challenge. I made a tomato sauce for tortillas the other day from one that was incredible.

Ooo no, never 'eard of her ringo - will see if there's owt online though, cheers chap

I'm currently growing stacks of chenzo chillis, which I have in mind to smoke, a la chipotle but with chenzos instead of jalapenos, cos chenzos look much more the part anyway than jalapenos.

ooh, will be interested to know how and if you do this soj, I've only got one chenzo plant, but I reckon it'll give me about 15 chillies

 Aren't they the most lush looking chillis going?! I was checking me plant tother day, couldn't see ANY, muttering and sulking...then saw 1...then, just like with magic mushies, I saw FUCKTONS :D:cool:

I think they're just beautiful - dying to know what they're like too

Same here, I have one chilli that looks ready, and thought 'is that it?' then suddenly... loads!! I think it was after I gave it some tom food, and also put them outside for the afternoon.

I've got two plants fruiting at the mo (cheers tarannau), the super chile has green>red growing upwards, and the chenzo green>purple/black growing down

I'm too scared to try em... they're for the boy, smoking and chilli oil :D

That's pretty much a quesadilla, isn't it? I do mine in a hot frying pan rather than the oven - you have to flip it over though.

Tonight we're having homemade chicken tikka, vegetable curry and brown rice.

I use proper organic tomato food on ALL my plants ;) I reckon it's the best nutrient you can give em. Feels a bit cannibalistic to give it to the actual tom plants too mind :hmm::D All of mine are outside now.

I'v got some cayennes and cheyennes on the go too - but the slugs have scoffed me other types  Brought my sweet peppers in to save them - fingers crossed

No idea! Never made a quesadilla before or even heard of one tbh. There's no way am flipping these buggers over, they WILL fall apart!

I've been putting some other stuff in with the soil recently, but fella at the garden centre said tom food for them and my herbs :)

I tried them out on the window sill for one day, it was too windy, they fell over but thankfully not off! So they're back in the kitchen. I should open the window more often really.

Oops, wrong thread, so tea... salad with mackerel.
