There's no future in England's dreaming
I didn’t know that. Weird.
There are theories. Conspiracy theories. But what is a 75 year silence rule if not a conspiracy?

Eh? Did you watch the programme? It's her sister, isn't it?
I’m sure I read somewhere at some point that someone suspected foul play from someone (his body guard?). Not sure why the security services would want that hushed though. There are theories. Conspiracy theories. But what is a 75 year silence rule if not a conspiracy?
Megan is played by her sister? I don’t know.
I think Megan is Ashley's sister, as in the characters. Megan is adopted, as I think was made clear in the third or fourth episode.Eh? Did you watch the programme?
Oh, really? I must have missed that. I mean, I knew she was adopted but I didn’t know she was Ashley’s sister.I think Megan is Ashley's sister, as in the characters. Megan is adopted, as I think was made clear in the third or fourth episode.
Yeah, the one where Ashley's nan dies. Meegan (sic) makes some snide comment about being less favoured because of her adopted status, I seem to remember.Oh, really? I must have missed that. I mean, I knew she was adopted but I didn’t know she was Ashley’s sister.
That’s not Ashley’s nan. That’s Megan’s adopted nan. Ashley is there as Megan’s friend. In fact the family tell Ashley she shouldn’t be there.Yeah, the one where Ashley's nan dies. Meegan (sic) makes some snide comment about being less favoured because of her adopted status, I seem to remember.
Ah OK, I got my wires crossed then. That’s not Ashley’s nan. That’s Megan’s adopted nan. Ashley is there as Megan’s friend. In fact the family tell Ashley she shouldn’t be there.

Hmm, very slow start, The Gallows Pole. Hopefully will get better once the plot kicks in
I really REALLY wanted to like this, but fuck me, it's absolute shite. Think we lasted about 15 mins before the complete and utter lack of any attempt at authenticity in any area of it became actually fucking insulting. Gutted cos I bloody love Shane Meadows.New Shane Meadows drama starts Wednesday on BBC 2, looks interesting

Meadows wasn’t aiming for historical verisimilitude - kinda difficult to do with improvisational method.I really REALLY wanted to like this, but fuck me, it's absolute shite. That's beside the point. Once any piece of art is released into the wild, it stops being about the creator and starts being about the reader/viewer.Meadows wasn’t aiming for historical verisimilitude - kinda difficult to do with improvisational method
I don’t agree with that at all! Historical rivet-counting is as tiresome as slavish attention to detail and can get in the way of the story-tellingThat's beside the point. Once any piece of art is released into the wild, it stops being about the creator and starts being about the reader/viewer.
This, on the other hand, was just perfect. Totally captured how it felt at that age, in that summer, and both of the female leads are wildly talented as well as being just impossibly beautiful. It manages to completely avoid any exploitation too, which is rare and extremely welcome.
My Summer of Love
Drama charting the unlikely friendship that develops over the course of a summer between working-class Mona (Natalie Press) and well-to-do Tamsin (Emily Blunt).www.bbc.co.uk
I'm not arsed if you agree with it tbh chuck, it is what it is. Artist intention is all well and good, but it holds no special weight, it isn't carried forward as an integral part of the art, and I speak as an artist. Reception, interpretation - this is where the art finishes up. I hated it for the reasons I outlined. I am unable to suspend my disbelief and sink into the story/enjoy the art if the dialogue/costume/whatever keep being flagged up with a great big horn blast as utterly inauthentic, if it sounds like a conversation I heard in the co op this affy.I don’t agree with that at all! Ooo, I've not heard of that film, I'll look it up ta!I agree, it's a brilliant film and I'd like to rewatch sometime. I imagine it in a double bill with Me Without You (the 2001 one).
