What stupid shit has Trump done today?

I saw something about this yesterday, that there was going to be a surprise witness in the Jan 6th hearings that person is:
Cassidy Hutchinson was a senior aide to Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows. Meadows was subpoenaed by the House January 6 Committee, partially complied with his subpoena, ceased complying, was referred for Criminal Contempt by Congress, and was excused from a charge by DOJ.
(nicked from one of the tweets). What she had to say is pretty incriminating re: Trump and probably quite a few other people. The thread is very long with a lot of background info but worth a read:

So in short, Trump and his staff dismissed the threats of violence
when told that they had weapons like AR15s asked for the magnetic weapons detectors to be removed because they weren't coming for him
then instructed the crowd to go to the capitol
then assaulted one of his staff when he refused to drive him to the capitol.

f*cking hell.

Some of this is even more horrifying than I imagined. One staffer wandered into a dining room to find a mess on the wall and floor, with someone cleaning up the mess. They were told that the president had flung his lunch against the wall when he didn't get what he wanted. They were also told that it wasn't the first time. White House staff was so freaked out by Jan 6 that they considered invoking the 25th Amendment, with only two weeks left in Trump's term. I knew we had a toddler in office, but assumed that was as much metaphor as reality.

Wonder what would have happened if Trump had got to the Capitol. Because the police would have had to protect him first. Would Pence, and enough of the chain of command have been killed? Would the bombs found around DC have been set off to create more chaos?

Just wait until the fucker unleashes his petty vengeance when he becomes PotUS again. It's not going to be pretty.

This is all gob-smacking stuff, but what's even more gob-smacking is that it's more likely than not there will be no consequences for Trump, he'll go on to stand for President in the next elections and will be elected. On an overt promise that if elected he'll make it as difficult as possible to remove him from power.

trump just getting as far as the nomination is going to be bad enough - with all his fash mob of supporters all riled up and wanting "revenge".
If he wins - well fucking hell - heaven help us all.
ITs going to be ugly. They absolutely need to put the cunt in prison for treason.

He's not going to prison, so don't get your hopes up. The Justice department won't even put him on trial, as all it needs is for one juror to decide it's a conspiracy against Trump, and he's acquitted amid all the fanfare of his diehard supporters. Are you confident they'd be able to appoint a jury with no Trump supporters on it?

They'd be a fool to indict him when that risk is there.

They can't try him on a jury with no Trump supporters can they? Because of juror selection etc

America needs to split in half at this point. Keep the nukes on the Northern side mind.

Perhaps the Southern side can become part of Russia.

I think this interview with a former US Attorney might provide some insight into current Justice Department thinking - prosecuting Trump would be seen as a political decision and convicting him could be very difficult, but choosing not to prosecute him despite ample evidence would also be a political decision.

Yeah. I think that the Justice Department does consider institutional interests and public trust and public perception when it makes these decisions, for better or for worse. But, in the end, the Justice Department has to do what it thinks is right. It can’t shrink from its duty just out of fear that some members of the public will accuse it of playing politics. It’s like if you’re the coach of a baseball team and your kid is the best player, you might be inclined to bench your kid so that everyone will praise you for how fair you are and how you play all the other kids. But, if you bench the best player just because he happens to be your kid, you’re going to lose the game.

Ultimately, you’re there to make the best decisions. And you can’t worry too much about your reputation or your place in history. Janet Reno had a saying about this. She said that, when you’re making these kinds of decisions, you’re damned if you do and you’re damned if you don’t, so you might as well just do the right thing.
