What stupid shit has Trump done today?

Quite something, though.

  • Trump supported the assasination of Mike Pence. When he learned supporters were chanting “hang Mike Pence,” Trump said “Maybe our supporters have the right idea,” Liz Cheney revealed on Thursday. “Mike Pence deserves it,” the president added.
  • Congressman Scott Perry, a Republican from Pennsylvania, inquired about a pardon after the 6 January riot. Perry played a key role in efforts to overturning the election.
  • Ivanka Trump told the committee she was persuaded by Attorney General William Barr’s statement that there was no widespread fraud in the election. “I respect attorney general Barr, so I accepted what he was saying.”
  • Jared Kushner dismissed the White House counsel’s threats to resign on 6 January, saying it seemed more like whining to him
  • Attorney General William Barr told Trump his claims of a stolen election were “bullshit”.
  • A Trump campaign lawyer told Mark Meadows in November that they weren’t finding widespread fraud. “So there’s no there there,” Meadows told the campaign lawyer.
January 6 hearing: hard-hitting evidence puts Trump at heart of assault on democracy – as it happened

On Tuesday, The Washington Post reported that the Secret Service was preparing a motorcade route on Jan. 6 for Trump to enter Congress with his supporters storming the Capitol to demand he stay in power.

According to two unidentified people briefed on witnesses' accounts to congressional investigators mentioned by the Post, Trump had put pressure on the Secret Service to find a way for him to reach his supporters from the park near the White House where he planned to hold a rally.

At the rally attended by thousands, Trump told the crowd: "We're going to walk down to the Capitol." After those remarks, Secret Service agents contacted D.C. police about blocking intersections, witnesses told the House Jan. 6 committee, but D.C. police declined.

The Secret Service has been a rogue agency for quite a while. There's been several scandals with them including agents who partied with prostitutes, agents who hung out with women later determined to be foreign agents, agents who have been arrested in child predator stings, sexting with minors, drinking on the job, etc. Drinking and hiring prostitutes just seems to be a day on the job for them.

There's the Columbian scandal:

Korean scandal:

There's this odd incident:

Most of those are just sex scandals, but if what the Vice President alleged happened on Jan. 6 is true, we have an agency that's out of control and in need of some serious reorganization, if not dissolution.

Members of the agency responsible for protecting the President have been found to be cavorting with foreign agents? Yep, definitely not fit for purpose.

Biden made a few changes to the team that directly protects the President. There was a (not unfounded) worry that the previous agents in charge were Trump loyalists. This still falls far short of what's really needed.

The Secret Service is making some staff changes in the presidential detail that will guard President-elect Joe Biden, amid concerns from Biden allies that some current members were politically aligned with President Trump, according to two people familiar with the changes.

As Biden readies his new administration, the Secret Service plans to bring back to the White House detail a handful of senior agents whom Biden knows well from their work more than four years ago guarding him and his family when he was vice president.

Staff changes are typical with the arrival of a new president and are designed to increase the trust and comfort the incoming president feels with his protective agents, who often stand by the president’s side during sensitive discussions and private moments.

But the shifts underway occur at a particularly contentious time, as Trump has blamed his reelection loss on unfounded allegations of voter fraud and has sought to block his administration from treating Biden as the president-elect. Some in the Secret Service also came under criticism during Trump’s tenure for appearing to embrace his political agenda.

It's funny but also a worrying portent of what may come. If the repubs lose their shit over failing to win a primary against fellow Republicans, imagine how completely unhinged they're going to be if they lose in a general vs a Democrat ...
Think they probably hate Republicans who believe in science and so on more than they hate anyone else.

There is also an awful lot of loon v loon action going on in their primaries as well. There have been some pretty epic post-primary tantrums from the 'nuttier than squirrel shit' faction.
