What stupid shit has Trump done today?

Trump administration announces major expansion of hunting and fishing access on federal lands

The Interior Department on Wednesday announced a plan to expand hunting and fishing opportunities in several federal wildlife refuges and fish hatcheries.

The plan would increase hunting and fishing access across 1.4 million acres of public land in 74 national wildlife refuges and 15 national fish hatcheries.

“President Trump is committed to expanding public access on public lands, and this proposal is executing on that directive by opening and increasing more access to hunting and fishing by the Fish and Wildlife Service at more stations and across more acres than ever before,” Interior Secretary David Bernhardt said in a press release.

“Hunting and fishing are more than just traditional pastimes as they are also vital to the conservation of our lands and waters, our outdoor recreation economy, and our American way of life. These refuges and hatcheries provide incredible opportunities for sportsmen and women and their families across the country to pass on a fishing and hunting heritage to future generations and connect with wildlife,” Bernhardt continued.

US military personnel ordered to paint border barriers to improve 'aesthetic appearance'

United States military personnel deployed near the U.S.-Mexico border have reportedly been assigned to paint certain barrier structures to strengthen their “aesthetic appearance.”

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) informed Congress that troops are going to spend the next month painting barriers and that “the primary purpose is to improve the aesthetic appearance.”

“A disgraceful misuse of taxpayer $$,” Durbin said on Twitter. “Our military has more important work to do than making Trump’s wall beautiful.”

CBS News reported that lawmakers were notified of the assignment via email. DHS said that an unspecified number of service members would paint barriers in Calexico, Calif., a city located along the southern border, according to text shared with the news network. The assignment will reportedly take about a month.

"While the primary purpose is to improve the aesthetic appearance of the wall, there may also be an operational benefit based on our experience with painted barrier in Nogales, Arizona," the email read, CBS News noted.

DHS pointed to the benefits of painting border structures in its notification to Congress, noting that painting border barriers in Tucson, Ariz., helped Border Patrol agents combat "camouflaging tactics of illegal border crossers" who tried to escape detection, CBS News reported. DHS added that migrants appear to have more difficulty climbing painted barriers.

Trump Delays D-Day Commemoration Start With Laura Ingraham Interview

The ceremonies commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day Thursday morning were set to start sharply at 11:00 AM local time, but actually started 15 minutes later than planned. According to MSNBC White House reporter Hallie Jackson, President Donald Trump’s conversation with Fox News primetime host Laura Ingraham may be the reason for the delay.

Jackson noted via Twitter that a French feed revealed that Trump was sitting with Ingraham 14 minutes after the scheduled 11:00 AM start time, before noting an announcement declaring a 15-minute delay, suggesting that the delay was due to Trump’s conversation with the Fox News host.

When Trump is finally out of the White House and BuzzFeed or whoever is compiling lists of "President Trump's 100 Most Outrageous Lies," his claim to Piers Morgan that nobody had heard of Vietnam in 1968 might be in there.

Well I was never a fan of that war, I'll be honest with you. I thought it was a terrible war, I thought it was very far away, nobody ever... you know you're talking about Vietnam and at that time, nobody had ever heard of the country."

Donald Trump's latest take on Robert Mueller literally makes no sense - CNNPolitics

Let's start with this: The President of the United States, in front the American war cemetery in Normandy, France where nearly 10,000 Americans are interred, decided to call Mueller "a fool."

That's Robert Mueller, a Marine infantry platoon commander during the Vietnam War. The same Mueller who received a Bronze Star and a Navy Commendation Medal for his service. (Worth noting: Donald Trump never served in Vietnam; he received five deferments including one for bone spurs.) The same Mueller who served as the FBI director for a decade -- nominated to the job by a Republican president and a Democratic president. And the man who led a nearly two-year long investigation into Russia's active efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election to help Trump and hurt Hillary Clinton.

That was who Trump called a "fool" while framed by the grave markers of thousands of Americans killed in one of the decisive battles of the Second World War.

So, there's that. Which would be enough. Too much, even.

But Trump didn't stop there. He added this: "Because what people don't report is the letter he had to do to straighten out his testimony because his testimony was wrong."

Just to walk through some basic facts here:

1) There was no Mueller "testimony.'
2) Mueller has never said anything publicly to suggest his report was "wrong."
3) The letter Mueller has sent was to Barr taking issue with the how the AG's summary statement -- and subsequent media coverage -- described his findings. And to be clear, that letter didn't exonerate Trump in any way; Mueller was concerned Barr had glossed over the nuance of the potentially obstructive actions.
4) Mueller's public statement last month also was not the sort of thing that Trump should cite as beneficial to his own interests. Quite the opposite. Mueller emphasized -- as he had done in the report that "if we had had confidence that the President had clearly not committed a crime, we would have said so." He also noted that the special counsel's office never even considered charging Trump on obstruction due to guidance from the Office of Legal Counsel (within the Justice Department) that a sitting president cannot be indicted.

Good piece here:

As Eisenhower, speaking at the Normandy American Cemetery, last resting place of 9,387 Americans, told Walter Cronkite for the 20th anniversary of the D-Day landings: “These people gave us a chance, and they bought time for us, so that we can do better than we have before.”

That was a solemn responsibility. For decades it was met, culminating with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Doing better, however, is not rising nativism, xenophobia, nationalism and authoritarianism given a nod and a wink by the president of the United States. It’s not Brexit, Britain turning its back on the Europe it helped free.

President Donald Trump signed his administration's first space policy directive today (Dec. 11), which formally directs NASA to focus on returning humans to the moon.

...

"The directive I'm signing today will refocus America's space program on human exploration and discovery," Trump said during the ceremony. "It marks an important step in returning American astronauts to the moon for the first time since 1972, for long-term exploration and use. This time we will not only plant our flag and leave our footprint — we will establish a foundation for an eventual mission to Mars and perhaps someday to many worlds beyond."

So, Trump's tarriffs on Mexico have nothing to do with immigration

President Donald Trump said Friday that Mexico may be able to avert tariffs on its goods by purchasing American agricultural products. Trump had previously said that escalating tariffs would be imposed, starting Monday, until Mexico took steps to stem unlawful immigration to the U.S.

“If we are able to make the deal with Mexico, & there is a good chance that we will, they will begin purchasing Farm & Agricultural products at very high levels, starting immediately,” Trump wrote in a post on Twitter.

“If we are unable to make the deal, Mexico will begin paying Tariffs at the 5% level on Monday!”

It's kinda like banning huawei and then saying he would lift the ban if China signs a trade deal.

Trump admin tells U.S. embassies no rainbow pride flag on flagpoles

The Trump administration is rejecting requests from U.S. embassies to fly the rainbow pride flag on embassy flagpoles during June, LGBTQ Pride Month, three American diplomats told NBC News.

The U.S. embassies in Israel, Germany, Brazil and Latvia are among those that have requested permission from Trump's State Department to fly the pride flag on their flagpoles and have been denied, diplomats said.

this is magnificent:

“There are those that say they have never seen the Queen have a better time, a more animated time. We had a period we were talking solid straight, I didn’t even know who the other people at the table were, never spoke to them. We just had a great time together.”
