What stupid shit has Trump done today?

Speaking of the unhinged, here is video of a Trump supporter calling for a Trump dictatorship. I think there's probably better quality video out there of this. It's been edited a little too much. Sometimes the unedited version plays better:

As fervent as some Hillary (or Bernie) supporters are, I have to doubt if any one of them would say "If there has to be a dictatorship, let it be Hillary."

I saw that in it's unedited form and it makes for disturbing viewing... Even the loons have a loon fringe it would appear...

I'm sure even most 10-year-old schoolkids would take all of ten seconds of thinking to conclude using firefighting planes to combat a building fire and in a heavily populated area to boot would be about the the most reckless thing you could do outside of using napalm as fire retardant.

He can't be that fucking thick, surely? It must be a veiled dig at the French authorities. Which is in fact far more despicable than abject ignorance of course.

Fuck knows what would have happened if he'd been in office during 9/11...

it's not really reckless water buckets from helicopters don't hurt but they'd be completely useless against a building fire pretty useless against a bush fire frankly trump needs to tweet and play more golf as he causes less damage that way.

the only good thing about his inability to politic is it means most of his terrible ideas dont get implemented.

Hard to top invading the wrong country and setting up a gulag in Cuba, but I'm sure he would have managed it somehow.
\
Look, and get this, they couldn't invade Saudi because:
  • They'd have had to fight someone with modern weapons
  • They'd have lost the sales for all those modern weapons
  • Way too much oil they didn't need to invade to get their hands around
  • The rest of the Muslim would would have thrown their lot in against the US if the Americans went anywhere near the holiest site in Islam
Afghanistan was poor, well fucked anyway, had no serious military, and nobody gave a shit about them. Perfect target

Trump would easily have managed, but I'm unsure May would have been as stupid and corrupt as Blair when it came to US invasions - errrr, maybe

This is damage that will outlive Trump . . . :(

The Republican Takeover of the Federal Courts Should Terrify You

Trump has already appointed two Supreme Court justices—though one of those appointments was rightfully Obama’s—along with a fifth of the sitting circuit court of appeals judges. Now, Republicans have set their sights on the district courts.
At the beginning of the month, McConnell invoked the “nuclear option” to permanently limit the amount of time senators can debate most nominees from 30 hours to just two. The change doesn’t apply to Supreme Court nominees or circuit court nominees but will allow Republicans to advance district court nominees at lightning speed.
A district court judge issues factual findings in litigation that circuit courts consider on appeal. This latest move by McConnell all but ensures that judges hostile to causes like voting rights, reproductive rights, and LGBTQ equality will help shape the law around those issues.
McConnell and Grassley . . . after Republicans wrestled control of the Senate from Democrats in 2014, immediately ground to a halt Obama’s efforts to confirm judicial nominees to make way for the next Republican president.
The problem isn’t just that Trump is appointing conservative judges. It’s that he’s appointing conservative judges who are handpicked and vetted by the Federalist Society, which Meagan Hatcher-Mays describes as “a shadowy conservative group that mobilized in the years after the Supreme Court’s historic decision in Roe v. Wade.”
These judges, many of whom are young and wildly unqualified, have been appointed to the bench for life barring an extremely rare impeachment. Unlike many of the regressive policies that Trump has implemented via executive order, these appointments cannot be otherwise undone. And that’s something we will have to live with for a generation.

It looks like the Republican Governor of MA has decided to run against Trump for the nomination.

Bill Weld officially launches long-shot GOP primary bid against Trump

He looks to be from the Libertarian faction of the party.

Other potential challengers:

Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, another vocal Trump critic, has been mulling a GOP primary challenge against Trump. So has Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, who heads to New Hampshire next week to headline “Politics and Eggs,” which is a must-stop for White House hopefuls.

This was what the election in 2016 was all about. We may have a small chance in 2020 to contain it, but I'm doubtful. Basically, what it will means is that at some point people will turn to violence to get redress instead of trusting in the legal system.
True, but my worry is really that the legal system will morph into a fundamentalist Christian version of Sharia Law, and the people most adversely affected will be unlikely to have recourse to other forms of justice - when they've been fired from their jobs for being gay, when they need an abortion, when they've been raped, etc.

I tend to think the last hope is flipping the Senate in 2020 - as important as if not more important than getting Trump out of the White House. But, it may be too late by then - too much damage done, or elections are suspended, or blatantly rigged if they do happen.

I'm not sure whether House Impeachment hearings would be a good or bad thing, not just because they'll never lead to removal by the Senate so long as McConnell and the GOP control it. There's clear evidence of multiple impeachable offenses, but we can be sure they'll be obstructed at every turn, as is happening with subpoenas now. Also, the offenses have been committed quite openly so there won't be any "big reveals" as there were with the Watergate hearings. I don't think Impeachment hearings would change the opinions of voters that much. Either they adore him and will excuse anything he's done, be appalled by it all (but already be voting Democratic Party) or already be too overwhelmed, or just keeping their heads down hoping it will go away, and won't be watching. True, it's some in this third group who need to be convinced to go to the polls next year, but I don't know that Impeachment hearings will help with that.

Trump, Barr, Nunes, etc. are already floating the idea of investigating/prosecuting Obama, Clinton, Comey, etc. for "spying" on the Trump campaign and that any Congressional Investigations of the Trump Administration would be politically motivated and vexatious. I think it's a toss up whether going for Impeachment would speed the path toward Show Trials of Trump's political oponents, or if that's a risk worth taking because there's not much left to lose.

Gloomy.

Trump says he had ‘wonderful conversation’ with Pope Francis, offered help after Notre Dame fire

“Just had a wonderful conversation with @Pontifex Francis offering condolences from the People of the United States for the horrible and destructive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral,” he tweeted. “I offered the help of our great experts on renovation and construction as I did in my conversation yesterday with President @EmmanuelMacron of France.”

I think the French can handle it.

They managed a pretty good job of firefighting by ignoring Trump's fucking childish suggestion of flying water tankers.

I still cannot get over how utterly ridiculous that was.

Of course he's that fucking thick!

I quite enjoyed reading what a pro firefighter had to say about trainee Trump

https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/donald-trump-branded-almighty-half-1

A West Yorkshire fire chief has called Donald Trump a "half wit" for suggesting the Notre-Dame cathedral fire in Paris could be extinguished with "flying water tankers".
Deputy chief fire officer Dave Walton responded to the US President's tweet which said: "So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
"Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out. Must act quickly!"

Mr Walton responded by saying: "Of all the almighty half wits in the world...Your expertise in firefighting is on a par with your grasp of humility, equality and honesty.

I know nothing of Dave Walton, but he's got Trump pegged.

We know there are going to be redactions. The redactions to look out for are any in the summary pages of each section that Mueller himself has said were fit to be released to Congress and the public immediately. Any redactions to those pages will indicate a cover up and nothing more.

That kinda assumes all people in France or catholics who attend Notre Dame are white :hmm:
To be honest, Trump probably DOES believe that to be the case, going by his previous form.

He does know that most Puerto Ricans are brown or black (even if someone has to keep reminding him that they are Americans) and a many of those affected by the poisoned water in Flint are Black, so frankly, he doesn't give a shit about them.
