What next for Ed Davey, Action Man?

I don't see the issue. I don't know anyone who calls Boris Johnson - Johnson. It's no biggie. With Hillary, you're aware her husband was president and kind of took the Clinton handle

It's just a bit overly familiar. I don't want or need to be on first name terms with politicians. Would you call Cameron 'David'? I wouldn't. Don't know anyone else who would either. At least use their first and last name if you want a qualifier (e.g. Clinton).

I used to work with people in Cameron's circle. He and everyone around him are known by their initials. So yeh, it's DC. My boss was AF. I once got addressed by my initials which is when I knew the game was up.... enough was enough

I get your point but given the whole world uses 'Boris' it seems a bit silly to use 'Johnson'

It probably irritates me more than it should but it's the sort of thing people who think Boris Jonson is the best thing ever say (You tell em Boris! etc etc ) so why would I get on their level? I don't know him. I don't like him. He's not a first name terms guy to me, and nor is Sunak. So when people say 'Rishi' it just grates on me. I know it's not an endorsement but I do think politicians should be treated with all the contempt they deserve and not like mates of ours.

It rolls off the tongue better. Do you read John Crace's column? He goes with Rish! Which I think harks back to the leadership election contest. Anyway, what's 'Ed' up to today?

So many stunts done to raise so many issues and mainly involving water perhaps his next challenge could be to swim the channel in respect in migrants.

Imagine a stunt where he goes back in time to 2010 and stops Nick Clegg from selling us out to the Tories then zaps him with a raygun.

That would get my vote.

That's an incredibly stupid and naive take on what happened. Clegg at least managed to put the brakes on the Tories to a degree at huge political cost which the lib dems are only just now recocering from. Osborne would have gone a lot further if there was no coalition.

You know they didn't have to go into coalition with the Tories, right? They sold out big time, and paid for it. And now they're not even the third biggest party in Westminster and have a leader so desperate for attention he has to resort to doing 'action man' stunts like a fucking loser.

They slowed down austerity. Both sides had to sacrifice policies.

Clegg is not an idiot. He knew very well it was political suicide. But what was the alternative?

The whole "Boris" branding was a media creation for publicity purposes to make him seem relatable, quirky, a "character" or "your mate". It's bollocks. Away from the media, he's known as Alexander (Al to his friends). People buying into brand Boris was a big part of the problem.

Don't do it and let them struggle through as a minority government and have the freedom to vote against their shit? Coalition with Labour?

Who amongst his friends calls him Al? Everyone in the party calls him Boris

It's what he was known as before the brand emerged. Short form of his first name, Alexander. Boris was created later and taken from one of his middle names. It was considered to be quirky (DePfeffle sounds silly and proper posho).

haha you daft soppy liberal twat this is the most embarrassing take on it I've ever seen on these forums.

14 years of Tory rule later sorry but I have to say old Cleggy's noble plans at watering down austerity failed. And badly. Almost like that wasn't actually his priority.

After yesterday's excitment, our Davey is enjoying a less adrenaline-fuelled day so far, in the form of a ride in a vintage car in picturesque Lacock

Wonder if any has written up the campaign with the organisers being interviewed. Presumably they're pleased that it worked as well or better than expected
