What new foods have you tried recently?

Romanuan vegetarian pate this comes in various flavours and costs 60-70 pence a tin and has been a welcome addition to my lunch box several times in the last fortnight

A German friend used to bring me tins of something similar called Tartex which I've rarely been able to fibd in the UK.

You can get tartex in the UK - but its in tubes not tins. They're in most health food / vegan shops near me.
I bought a small tin of granovita vegan pate from the "free from" section of Asda the other day.

Tonight I'm cooking a spaghetti squash. They are so called because, when roasted, the flesh comes out in spaghetti-like strands. I am roasting it now and just deciding what to have it with.

White sweet potatoes.

Recommended by the sister of my Nigerian friend and purchased in Brixton and brought to me by said friend.

These make excellent chips - they go crispy, unlike the orange ones.

Lately I've been buying TVP and yesterday used it in a vegan lasagne cooked in the slow cooker. It's not "new" food to me, just using TVP instead of meat and not using the oven. It's quite good, but makes me fart. I'm hoping it will encourage weight loss and shredding.

About monkfish - have you considered hake instead? (might be even more expensive, idk)
Warning: do not read if squeamish

Monkfish used to be despised by fishmongers as a 'nasty, dirty' fish as it's a bottom feeder and often infested with visible parasites, worms and suchlike. Sorry. I agree it's delicious but its rebranding by restaurants, supermarkets and fishmongers as an 'elite' product is a hilarious/tragic bit of profiteering after overfishing made many other firm-fleshed white fish unviable.
following a thread in here about monkfish and worms I've not been able to eat it since

Visited some lovely friends who supplied me with wine. They had some Ryvita sweet chilli thins flatbreads and some Waitrose Chaource creamy cheese, a combination so good I had to go and find a Waitrose yesterday and get some in.

I made etouffee tonight, fuck me it's good. This recipe, although, being in Sheffield, crawfish tails were swapped for crab and prawns. I also used coriander (as in the powdered spice) to add a bit of citrus background, which admission may get me shot if ever visit Louisiana.

A bottle of Falooda my houseguest found in my fridge and dared me to drink. I found it perfectly lovely, but I like Turkish Delight, and they do not :D

Today: smoked cod liver, tasty but unpleasant texture; morçilla pirate, a type of spicy blood pudding, tasty.

Previously I had smoked sardine they're delicious to say the least.

If you've got any intestinal worms you will be expelling them shortly so keep an eye on your poo.

Papaya seeds = bush medicine for worms:thumbs:
And the juice of green , unripe papaya brings down malaria fever (according to an Indonesian I met who got malaria every year) .

None, and every time this thread comes up top I realise I've not tried anything new for ages.
Last thing I did try was feta cheese croquettes from the Greek promos at Lidls. Bad choice...

Romanian braided, smoked cheese.

Not bad, but wouldn't buy again. Texture is good, but the rind isn't so nice. Maybe you're not meant to eat it?

Latvian smoked cheese (hunter's cheese, apparently). Fucking delicious! It's quite mature/hard for a smoked cheese and it has spices on the outside. Love it.

Various wild mushrooms in jars with spices from Lithuania. Bit weird, but not too bad. Wouldn't buy again. Not sure how to eat them so I just dived into the jar with a fork.

Where do you get these things from?

Blimey they're rough. Like licking a stock cube. In theory these should be my everything but the artificial beefiness is just.so.harsh.

I accidentally the whole jar in one sitting :(

Knowing it was never going to come in contact with bread, I would have done much better to have bought a bag of trail mix.

It clearly was edible - though not a patch on almond butter.

Burger King Chicken Royale. Wasn't even in beer. It was an absolutely foul sloppy mess with no redeeming features whatsoever. With fries I paid over a fiver for the pleasure. Almost certainly the worst thing I have ever eaten.
