What are you baking?

Ok :)

What does the cake look like inside? :hmm: (and where did you get the recipe? :))

It looks all appley and moist inside but still like a cake, if that makes sense. I think I got the recipe on-line (can't remember which site) and wrote it down and have been using it since. Might come up if you search apple crumble cake I s'pose. Hope it turns out nice :)

It's my son's 13th birthday today....he and three of his pals are going to the cinema/maccy d's then back to his dad's for xbox and a sleepover, so I had to take a cake round this morning...it's a choc brownie cake (again :D  ) with chunks of white chocolate and a smashed up Crunchie (his fave  ) and chocolate fudge icing. Couldn't put the candles in, obv, or it wouldn't have gone in the tin :D so it looks a bit underdressed....but those are the them next to it (18 candles in the pack....but only 12 candle holders   ).

Worst thing was I'd just had a phone call telling me I have a job interview for a job I REALLY want (dinner lady :D ) next week (first in 17 years, I worked out   :D ), so I was shaking like fuck when I had to try and put all the tiny letters on.....put the 'y' on 'happy' the wrong way round....and couldn't for the life of me get a picture that wasn't blurred either :D

you'll be an ace dinner lady! g'luck lovely.

(is that the lid of a quality street tin?)

It IS! :D

Ready for *transportation* :hmm: (how is it that carrying such a light weight can make your arms so KNACKERED...it's only ten minutes up the road...but they were killing me just from having to hold it so steady :D ).

And thanks, B  - if you remember, I went for one in Jan-ish (saw it literally the very first time I looked....but it'd already been advertised for 10 days or so and I didn't even have a CV prepared then...so just sent a rambling email expressing my *interest* and unsurprisingly didn't hear anything back) have been looking ever since and seen no others advertised, so have been looking for *anything* since, but knowing that nothing else would give me school holidays (cos I defo do NOT want to be a teaching assistant  :D )....looked again yesterday and there are five advertised now....four of them very near by (3 at my son's school, again :D :p ) and one further out.
All except the last one (which I'd still do) would fit perfectly time-wise with taking my daughter to and from school, too, without any need for childcare etc.

But I know this is my last shot for that work, cos they're obviously filling places for September (and given that there've been none advertised since Jan) and I also knew there'd have been loads of other applicants, too (and the woman who called this morning said she'd been sifting through LOTS of CV's)...but I know I'm going to be a sweaty, red mess in the interview, too....I'll prob end up on the floor, crying, holding the bottom of her skirt and BEGGING for the job, lol...but yeah, I KNOW it'll suit me - and that I'll enjoy it, bodding around in a kitchen, not doing anything massively creative and working with some time pressure etc but...I just really, REALLY fucking WANT this job.

Anyway....errrrrr.....what thread, again? :hmm:   :D

Really though, cheers for the good wishes, you lot!

Cake looks wonderful sheo , so your son must be one of the youngest in the class like my boy then?
((((summer babies))))

Good luck with the interview, it sounds perfect :)

"would you give any children extra pudding?" :D

Remember I asked my son, back In Jan if he'd mind....and he dithered a bit...but then said he wouldn't?

TODAY he said that NOW THAT HE IS A TEENAGER, he might mind after all   ...tough shit, tbf! :p :D

Buuuuut....I know he struggles to get there in time to get the pannini's before they get sold out (I know this cos he sometimes comes home and TELLS me that he made it to the canteen before they were all sold out  ...like it made his day, hehe :D )....so maybe he'll come round to the idea if I shove a few sly ones under the counter for when him and his mates turn up  ;) :D

Yes!

Actually though - as much as *I* remember that birthday stuff (like, NOT BEING THE YOUNGEST) seeming important in secondary school....I think it's been less of an issue for him than it was in primary school :hmm: - just in case that might be reassuring for BoatieJnr!
I guess the difference a year (potentially) makes sort of evens out a bit more as they get older  he's far more confident/comfortable now than he was then :)

I do remember... and yep tough shit! Go for it sheo

do not say this in your interview :D

How did the apple crumble cake turn out, zenie?

I've made some chocolate pistachio brownies, and there's a sultana and coconut cake in the oven. I used some of that chocolate extract in the brownies Greebo, mmmmmm.

I just baked gluten free, dairy free brownies, and this is pretty much all I bake these days. That said they are completely delicious and at a BBQ I had a few weeks back everybody said they were really good, and that they couldn't tell at all, that they lacked dairy and gluten. So glad for this recipe!

chicken and mushroom pie.

humming and haring about sauce but the meat, mushies and pastry are done.:)
