What are you baking?

Excellent icing Aqua.

I have been experimenting with my friend's wedding cake today to make sure I can get the colours vivid enough. I think I am ready to start baking and freezing fairly soon.

give me a shout if you have any questions or anything :)

Thanks :) basically it's just a question of how much gel colourant to use and batter consistancy for a multi layered sponge cake. I think I'm a bit happier after today.

I also have a kitchen full of bright blue cake.

so, in order to cheer the lovely yet injured kidda up, me, felixthecat and purenarcotic plotted a surprise afternoon tea for her. ftc and I got busy in the kitchen to produce this

afternoontea.jpg

it was parmesan pinwheels, victoria sponge and quadruple chocolate fridge cake (ftc), plus fresh fruit pavlova, cherry trifle, blueberry cheesecake cupcakes, scones, macarons with strawberry buttercream (me) and sandwichs without crusts (brie & grape, ham, smoked salmon & cream cheese and cucumber)

we all had a little bit of a sugar rush/crash issue last night :D

There are no words for just how immense this was.

The sugar crash was on a whole new level.

When felixtc and aqua bake, they really bloody bake :D :D

paprika, garlic and herb pizza base/flat bread.
for dunking in my latest version of pumpkin soup.

Pumpkins?! In August?! :D

I just received a mini muffin tin, a tart dobber thing, and a huge rubber spatula in the post.

I'm guessing the tart dobber was included to make tarts in the mini muffin tin, though I think it'll be a bit of a faff blind baking that many mini tarts :D Have just had a 'how awesome would mini lemon meingue pie petit fours' thought though

Will bake on monday afternoon, now just got to decide what....:hmm:

We're trying to shift a few pounds at the moment so I made some low GI oat, honey & peanut butter bars today.
They are a bit worthy, but at least we'll have something that almost tastes like a biscuit to keep us going throughout next week.

But we've still got to have a treat at the weekend so I'm going to make a blueberry & almond tart at some point over the next couple of days :hmm:

can I have the recipe please? Never made savoury muffins that I can recall :hmm:
its the same as normal muffins iirc, just chuck in a bunch of cheese and herbs!

I used olive oil not butter as it makes it easier. All the ingredients in a bowl, mix a bit, job done

That's soooo thoughtful! I wish I knew people like you. :D

I made fruit loves for the Chinese staff at Mr Yu's work, as they've been very kind and helpful to me since we arrived, asking strangers to help you order a year's worth of the pill is a bit above and beyond!

Just made bread dough sweetened with honey, rolled out large rectangles of it, sprinkled chopped dried fruit over them and then rolled them up. A bit like an eggless, marzipan-less Stollen I suppose.

I am making bacon, cheese and spring onion scones tomorrow, with some odd American recipe that uses double cream. I am so very excited. And slightly worried.

God they sound delicious! Rich, but delicious.

I just made a loaf of oaty bread. Soaked some instant oats in boiling water until the water was just warm, added to general bread mix, proceeded as normal. It made a really, really sticky dough, but seemed to come out fine.

They are indeed!
I did replace half the plain flour with wholemeal, in an attempt to make them more healthy. And I think I buggered the recipe. They still taste great but they fall apart as soon as you touch them.

Stupid wholemeal flour. *grumble*

I have organised a bake-off as part of a Macmillan 'Big Coffee Morning' fundraiser next Friday.

Any spectacular cake suggestions? As organiser I am not up for the prizes but would like to bake something wonderful.

Biggest seller at my sale the other month was carrot cake, if you're not doing it on a budget then chocolate guinness cake always goes down well :)
